Department Overview

This position is expected to develop, enhance, implement, and provide direction for home infusion pharmacy

services and initiatives. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, employee supervision, education and

training of staff, residents, interns and students, provide leadership and service line development, involvement in quality assessment and process improvement, and serve as a administrative role model. In addition, they will staff their service area to maintain their competencies in clinical expertise.

Function/Duties of Position

  • Responsible to provide all clinical duties as outlined in the home infusion pharmacist position description
  • Supervision of Staff: Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules, and supervises assigned staff, develops performance standards, conducts performance appraisals (PE); and recommends salary increases consistent with Hospital policy and procedures.
  • Program Design & Development: Development of programs, strategies, facilities and systems for service improvement or expansion in home infusion services. Develop and monitor performance and quality metrics related to the departmental goals and their specific pharmacy service lines. Participate in the development and implementation of the Department of Pharmacy's strategic plan in alignment with the organization's mission, vision, and values. Prepare and review policies and procedures as necessary to meet or exceed regulatory requirements and operational efficiencies.
  • Process Improvement: Develops new and improved services within University Hospital through constant evaluation and innovation to enhance pharmacy services. Establish best practices in their clinical service area to improve patient care outcomes. Identify and resolve unsafe conditions, inefficient work processes, or opportunities for value analysis. Assist in managing drug shortages and high cost medications by providing clinical expertise related to utilization, alternative therapies, and impact on service.
  • Departmental Interdisciplinary Coordination: Coordinates services in assigned areas with other Pharmacy areas, nursing areas, other Hospital departments, and external agencies to facilitate continuity of care.
  • Operations Management: Responsible for business operations in the absence of the Home infusion Director and Operations Manager
  • Other Duties as Assigned


Required Qualifications

  • Pharm.D. or BS in Pharmacy with equivalent experience
  • 3 years of Pharmacist experience.
  • Pharmacist Licensure in the State of Oregon (required at start of position)
  • Pharmacist License in the State of Washington (required at start of position or soon after)

Additional Details

The supervisor will experience competing demands from pharmacy management, nurses, physicians, pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals, as they attempt to influence clinical decision-making, clinical policies and practices and work flow. The supervisor must deal with intense situations on a daily basis. In addition, within the healthcare setting there can be significant lack of control over the work pace, with frequent interruptions (work is often dictated by external factors) that may lead to mental fatigue or stress.
