Full-Time Pharmacist | UPMC HamotJoin UPMC Hamot's Pharmacy team and play a vital role in delivering safe, effective, and patient-centered medication therapy while supporting the advancement of clinical and operational pharmacy practice within a leading healthcare system.
Schedule:Full-time position primarily consisting of day and evening shifts, including 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, 12:30 PM to 9:00 PM, and occasional 4:00 PM to 12:00 AM coverage (less than 1% of the year). Weekend and holiday rotation is required.
Preferred Qualifications Candidates with
3 to 5 years of hospital pharmacy experience are strongly preferred. Prior leadership, supervisory, or team coordination experience is highly desirable.

About the Role This position provides operational leadership and support for pharmacy services, helping to ensure safe, efficient, compliant, and high-quality medication-use processes. The pharmacist works collaboratively with pharmacy staff, nursing, medical staff, and hospital leadership to advance patient care initiatives, optimize workflows, promote staff development, and support departmental strategic goals.
Pharmacists are responsible and accountable for the provision of safe, effective, and cost-conscious pharmacotherapy. They support both centralized and decentralized medication-use systems to ensure optimal patient outcomes. This role participates in all aspects of pharmacy operations and medication management services, including patient assessment, medication monitoring, patient education, and the prevention and resolution of medication-related issues.
In addition, pharmacists serve as clinical resources to healthcare providers and actively contribute to quality improvement, patient safety, regulatory compliance, and pharmacy practice advancement initiatives. Responsibilities may also include providing education and training to pharmacy staff, pharmacy students, and pharmacy residents, as well as participating in projects aimed at enhancing pharmacy services and improving patient care outcomes.
Title and salary will be determined based on education, experience, and career ladder requirements.
Responsibilities: - Interpret and evaluate physician orders and prescriptions to prepare, calculate, and dispense appropriate medication dosage forms for inpatient and outpatient treatment in accordance with the Pennsylvania Pharmacy Practice Act, Federal Drug Laws, and other regulatory organizations.
- Identify and report suspected adverse drug reactions accurately and in a timely manner.
- Sustain the formulary by minimizing non-formulary procurements, utilizing therapeutic interchange protocols, and promoting rational drug therapy selection.
- Review, maintain, and screen patient medication records and profiles for allergies, drug interactions and therapeutic duplications while entering orders and/or verifying medications.
- Organize daily operational duties and assist in the supervision of pharmacy technicians, pharmacy aides, student interns and other ancillary personnel involved in providing pharmaceutical care.
- Adhere to all regulatory requirements, professional standards of practice, and hospital quality management policies and procedures in providing pharmaceutical care.
- Communicate with physicians and nurses to ensure prompt clarification of orders that are unclear, illegible, or incomplete.
- Provide drug information and/or educational programs to healthcare professionals and pharmacy students.
- Utilize all available computer systems and technologies in the provision of pharmaceutical care
- Fill prescription orders in accordance with State and Federal regulations, utilizing technological resources and equipment.
- Prepare and dispense intravenous admixture solutions, as required, using aseptic technique in an accepted sterile product preparation area.
Qualifications: - Graduate of an ACPE accredited College of Pharmacy
- B.S in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree
- Required: Current licensure as a Pharmacist in practicing state
- Entry Level - no previous experience required; pharmacist experience preferred.
