Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Pharmacy Manager/Pharmacist-in-Charge, the Retail Pharmacist is responsible for the safe and accurate dispensing of medications while delivering high-quality patient care. This role includes interpreting prescriptions, overseeing medication preparation and compounding, counseling patients, and providing clinical pharmacy services. The pharmacist ensures compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies, and supports pharmacy operations and staff when delegated.
Key Responsibilities
Accurately interpret, review, and dispense prescription medications in compliance with state and federal regulations
Perform clinical review of prescriptions including dosage, frequency, contraindications, and drug-drug interactions
Counsel patients on medication use, side effects, interactions, and special requirements
Provide Medication Therapy Management (MTM) and other clinical consultation services
Communicate with prescribers and healthcare providers regarding therapy clarification and recommendations
Ensure proper procurement, storage, inventory control, and handling of medications, including controlled substances
Maintain accurate records and compliance with FDA, DEA, CMS, TJC, and Maryland Board of Pharmacy regulations
Support pharmacy operations including policies, procedures, budgeting, and workflow efficiency
Assist the Pharmacy Manager with staff training, scheduling, interviewing, and oversight as directed
Perform cash handling and end-of-day reconciliation
Support specialty pharmacy operations if applicable
Complete additional duties related to retail pharmacy operations as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Education
