Full Job Description
Job Summary:

This position requires extensive contact and collaboration with medical staff, nursing service, and non-hospital personnel. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served; also demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Demonstrates knowledge and sensitivity to cultural and religious beliefs of patients, visitors and staff. Maintains all department and hospital records and enters accurate information into the electronic health record. Fulfills professional responsibility in dispensing, procurement, control, and consultation involved with pharmaceuticals. The Pharmacist must possess and utilize a knowledge base in medication for children (pediatric), adolescent, and geriatric patients to evaluate orders, make recommendations for therapy and manage therapy through protocols. Supervises and directs support personnel. Performs other duties as assigned.

Performance Expectations:

Performance expectations will be covered in the orientation and preceptor phases of your orientation to your job.
  • Utilizes critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment without prompting by supervisor.
  • Possesses strong knowledge of hospital policies and government regulations and dispenses accordingly with few variances from policy.
  • Consults with physicians and nursing staff regarding patient reactions, errors and complaints resulting in a positive perception of department.
  • Accepts personal ownership of remaining current with changes in department processes by checking communication at each shift (email and mailbox).
  • Communicates with team members and department leadership as evidenced by routinely leaving notes, exchanging emails, and attending any in-services.
  • Utilizes knowledge of age specific needs of patient in performance of duties and responsibilities resulting in few major medication errors.
  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
  • Utilizes department practices consistently in accordance with USP 795, USP797, and USP 800.

Qualifications:

Education/Skills

Graduate of an ACPE-accredited school of pharmacy.

Work Experience:

Preferred but not required.

Certification/Licensure-DUE UPON HIRE

  • Registration with the Mississippi State of Board of Pharmacy.
  • Current Controlled Substance Registration in the State of Mississippi by the MS State Board of Pharmacy.
