Full Job Description
Summary:

The Performance Test Lab Supervisor will plan, coordinate, and schedule activities related to the personnel and organization of the Engineering Test and Validation department including the oversight of our recognized Intertek SATELLITE laboratory to facilitate customer and internal testing requirements The Performance Test Lab Manager is directly involved in performing all activities related to the performance testing of products and systems. This position will involve working with clients, both internally and externally.

Plans, coordinates, and directs all activities related to the operational, staffing, project management, quality assurance, and training aspects of the Engineering labs. In addition, it is the responsibility of the Performance Test Lab Supervisor to provide appropriate reports and representation to support the interdepartmental communication requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Supervise all activities assigned to the engineering test department, including personnel.
  • Responsible for meeting requirements to become and maintain an approved / certified test lab under the rules and regulations of agencies (such as Intertek, California Energy Commission, Department of Energy, etc.) including making proper submissions to DOE and CEC when required.
  • Responsible for creation and maintenance of all third-party listing reports (MET, Intertek, UL, etc.) for products as necessary.
  • Responsible to meet and maintain ISO standards under the company's directive.
  • Responsible to meet and maintain safety standards under the company's directive.
  • Plan and schedule performance tests for products and systems in cooperation with Engineering and /or Application Engineering.
  • Plan and schedule customer witness tests for products and systems in cooperation with Application Engineering and Sales.
  • Generate reports and provide necessary communications with other departmental functions regarding the Performance Test Lab responsibilities.
  • Design test control apparatus and equipment, and develop methods and procedures for testing components, products or systems, if test requirements deviate from common standards.
  • Responsible for maintaining validations and certifications within the laboratory environment.
  • Responsible for general maintenance of Performance Test Lab assets and equipment.
  • Responsible for all aspects of the supervision of lab personnel.
  • Provides performance evaluations of lab personnel. Evaluates and awards compensation adjustments for lab personnel.
  • Knowledge of industry standards such as AHRI 1360, ASHRAE 127, UL 1995, UL 60335-2-40, UL 508A, UL 998 is a plus.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

Education/Experience:
  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a similar field
  • 7-10 years in an engineering or technical role, preferably in the mission-critical cooling industry
  • Ability to use all appropriate testing equipment to perform testing, troubleshooting and evaluation of critical cooling and environmental control equipment
  • Appropriate safety training to perform job functions (NFPA 70E, OSHA or equivalent)
  • Minimum 2 years of experience performing HVAC service or testing
  • Project management skills are preferred, but not required
  • Knowledge of Psychrometrics is preferred.
  • Knowledge of industry standards such as AHRI 1360, ASHRAE 127, UL 1995, UL 60335-2-40, UL 508A, UL 998 is preferred.


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
  • EPA 608 - Universal - or the ability to obtain as necessary


Language Skills:
  • Ability to read and understand English instructions


Mathematical Skills:
  • Must possess, as a minimum, basic Algebra

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical equipment or electrical hazards. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee is regularly exposed to an office environment and the lab working space. It may be required that the employee work in the manufacturing area when providing manufacturing support. This work environment may be at higher noise levels and lower air quality. Individuals may also be required to provide field support for equipment whereby the outside environment may be encountered as well as environments commonly encountered in air-conditioning equipment installations.
