OverviewThe Performance Improvement Advisor serves as an internal and external consultant leading process improvement initiatives for the health system and community partners. This position will interface with all levels of the organization and will lead and facilitate cross functional teams to improve processes. This position will also identify barriers that prevent successful attainment of process improvement goals and is responsible for proactively identifying process improvement opportunities to significantly impact organizational goals. This position must be able to demonstrate exceptional problem solving capabilities, advanced leadership and coaching skills, data analytic skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills. Possess a mindset for change, and be able to influence with passion and data.
The Performance Improvement Advisor is a key liaison and resource between UPH - Cedar Rapids operations and leadership. The PI Advisor promotes and spread a culture of continuous improvement that engages frontline-staff in decisions, encourages them to identify problems and solutions, and brings standards and processes to the act of managing. The PI Advisor leads formal and informal training session of varying sizes, instructing frontline leaders and management on the use of PI tools and methodologies. The individual supports and guides project sponsors (operational owners) in the execution of process improvement efforts for the health system and community partners. The PI Advisor ensures rigor and consistency in problem solving methodology, using tool facilitation skills to maximize the impact and productivity of project teams.
The PI Advisor acts as an internal consultant and resource to St. Luke's Hospital, UPH Cedar Rapids Market. Also serves as an external consultant to community partners. The PI Advisor serves as a facilitator and change agent for continuous process and performance improvement by providing project planning and execution, understanding, defining, and communicating process redesign.
ResponsibilitiesPI Internal and External Consultant- Create performance improvement capability by modeling, advising, teaching and supporting others to demonstrate results in performance improvement.
- Lead improvement projects that align with organizational goals.
- Applies and teaches improvement methods using The Model for Improvement - PDSA Cycles.
- Identify gaps and support survey processes for accreditation, certifications and reviews.
- Analyzes systems and processes for potential improvement opportunities and makes applicable recommendations for improvement.
Process Engineering- Assists operational leaders and teams with workflow design or redesign to improve quality and productivity.
- Promotes and assists with implementation of highly specified and standard work.
Data analytics- Converts data into useable information. Identifies data needed to establish baseline and measure the change, data gathering, presentation, interpretation and analysis.
- Identifies and facilitates the collection and analyzing of quantitative and qualitative data and identifies key findings
Qualifications- Bachelors in Healthcare, Engineering, or related field required.
- Five years work experience in a performance improvement capacity required
- Knowledge and expertise in use of performance improvement tools and methodologies.
- Team facilitation skills
- Ability to lead teams in improvement work.
- Knowledge of improvement methodologies such as the Model for Improvement/PDSA, Adaptive Design, Lean or Six Sigma required.
- Understanding of improvement measurement and analysis using charts and graphs, including control charts.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
- Strong interpersonal skills to influence and guide frontline employees, leadership, physicians and other external parties.
