Overview

Savannah River Mission Completion is seeking a Performance Assessment Lead to be based in our Aiken, SC location on the Savannah River Site.

 

The Performance Assessment Lead develops, implements, and defends waste disposal and waste tank operational closure actions through management of Savannah River Site (SRS) environmental performance assessments (PAs).  Interfaces with regulatory stakeholders, facility engineering and operations, and Department of Energy (DOE) customers. The Performance Assessment Lead interfaces with regulatory stakeholders, facility engineering and operations, and Department of Energy customers.

 

Responsibilities
  • Provides leadership in the development and maintenance of environmental PAs that:
    • Are elated to the disposal of low-level salt waste at the Saltstone Disposal Facility, the closure of SRS high-level waste tanks, and the SRS Composite Analysis, and
    • Utilize conceptual and mathematical modeling to determine the fate of natural and engineered barriers, and the related fate and transport of hazardous chemicals and radionuclides in the environment,
  • Collaborates with colleagues throughout the DOE Complex on the state of the art regarding environmental PAs,
  • Provides technical support to address emergent queries and concerns from the DOE Low-Level Waste Disposal Facility Federal Review Group (LFRG), the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services (SCDES), and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA); and
  • Contributes to the fulfillment of project and organizational objectives as a team member dedicated to demonstrating long-term compliance of disposal and closure actions.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Geology, Computer Science or other related science degree from an accredited university or college
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Geology, Computer Science or other related science degree from an accredited university or college
  • Familiarity in flow and contaminant transport modeling calculations specifically using PORFLOW and GoldSim.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Background with legacy Department of Energy defense programs and chemical processes.
  • Experience with numerical software using MATLAB, Python, or similar codes.
  • Influential communication, facilitation and collaboration skills to explain, present, and advise senior management and stakeholders who may not have the same technical understanding as demonstrated in presentations to, and participation with, groups such as the Performance and Risk Assessment Community of Practice and the Waste Management Conference.
