What You'll Do: The People Operations Manager plays a key role in ensuring the seamless execution and ongoing improvement of core HR functions across the employee lifecycle in a dynamic, unionized environment. Reporting to the VP of People, this role is responsible for driving operational excellence in onboarding, benefits administration, HRIS management, employee records, and payroll coordination. The People Operations Manager serves as a trusted resource for employees and managers, providing coaching, guidance, and technical support to enhance the overall employee experience. This role partners closely with the HR team to ensure operations are compliant, consistent, and aligned with organizational goals.
Responsibilities: - Benefits Administration & Support: Administer employee benefits programs, including enrollments, life events, open enrollment, and terminations in coordination with vendors and brokers
- Onboarding & Offboarding Support: Partner with the HR team to support effective onboarding, offboarding, and communications
- Employee Communication & Education: Foster employee understanding of benefits, leave programs, and workplace policies through clear and consistent communication
- HR Process Optimization: Maintain and regularly improve HR SOPs and procedures to ensure compliance, consistency, and a positive employee experience
- Culture & Engagement Support: Support employee engagement initiatives that align with company culture and promote a positive, inclusive, and high-performing workplace
- Leave of Absence Coordination: Coordinate and track employee leaves of absence, including FMLA, ADA, and personal leave, ensuring compliance with policies, legal, and union requirements while supporting employee well-being
- HR Data Management: Oversee HRIS management (e.g., Rippling), ensuring data accuracy, efficient workflows, and robust reporting
- Personnel File & Document Accuracy: Maintain accurate employee records and documentation, including personnel files, I-9s, and compliance tracking
- SOP & Procedure Consistency: Maintain HR SOPs and ensure consistent application of HR procedures and best practices
- Employment Law Compliance Monitoring: Monitor and ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and union employment laws and regulations, working proactively to mitigate risk and support organizational integrity through regular audits
- Event & Program Coordination: Coordinate HR-led events, including employee appreciation activities, training sessions, and compliance programs that foster engagement and awareness
- Training & Certification Compliance: Track and report compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, certifications, and licensure, such as anti-harassment training and ServSafe requirements
- Workers' Compensation & Injury Reporting: Intake and document reports of work-related injuries and coordinate the workers' compensation process to ensure employee support and legal compliance
- Ad hoc duties: Perform other duties or tasks as assigned by the HR Manager or VP of People based on business needs
Qualifications/Skills: - Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in Human Resources or People Operations experience, with at least 2 years in a management role
- Strong understanding of benefits, leave laws, HR compliance, and policy development
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and HRIS systems (Rippling experience is preferred)
- Proficiency in HRIS platforms (Rippling preferred)
- High level of discretion when handling sensitive and confidential information
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Identify potential issues and implement solutions proactively
- Able to deliver clear, supportive guidance to employees and managers
- Able to communicate effectively in English
- Must have reliable form of transportation
Preferred: - Bilingual in Spanish
- Experience working in a union environment
- PHR or SHRM-CP certification
Physical & Environmental Demands: - Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to walk at least 5,000 steps per shift, including stairs, inclines, and declines
- Able to pivot, transition between seated and standing positions, kneel, stoop, and lift throughout shifts
- Able to use manual dexterity, gross motor skills, and fine motor skills
- Prolonged computer use with frequent typing and mouse activity, requiring hand-eye coordination and visual focus, with periodic breaks to reduce fatigue
- Able to use headsets, dual monitors, or other ergonomic office tools for comfort and efficiency
- Able to distinguish colors and see both up close and at a distance
- Able to work in confined spaces
- Comfortable working in loud, distracting environments
- Able to multitask and work efficiently with speed, accuracy, and composure in a fast-paced, high-volume restaurant and entertainment venue
