The Pediatric Trauma/ Pediatric Surgery (PTPS) Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will work with the Pediatric Surgery (Trauma) service and interdisciplinary teams to provide acute care to pediatric trauma patients. This position provides care to injured children in the inpatient and outpatient settings. His/her/their responsibilities include assisting with pediatric trauma resuscitations, inpatient management, care coordination, discharge planning as well as coordinating outpatient appointments, and outpatient follow up care.

The PTPS APP will also have responsibilities for pediatric general surgical patients, including, but not limited to rounding with the pediatric surgical team, caring for inpatients, taking APP inpatient service call, and helping staff pediatric general surgery clinics. The PTPS APP will participate in routine clinical team, program, department, and hospital meetings. While clinical responsibilities are their primary responsibility, as clinical demands allow, the PTPS APP will assist with the overall performance improvement program (PIPS) for the Pediatric Trauma program and the development/implementation of performance/process/quality improvement plans.

Qualifications:

Nurse Practitioner

Require a Master's degree as a Nurse Practitioner, an active New York State Registered Nurse license in good standing, an active New York State Nurse Practitioner licensure in good standing and current national certification as an Nurse Practitioner.

Physician Assistant

Required completion of an ARC-PA approved Physician Assistant program, an active New York State Physician Assistant licensure in good standing and current national certification as a Physician Assistant by NCCPA (National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants)

NPs and PAs will demonstrate clinical competence, superior verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal effectiveness and customer relation skills, computer competence and must have an active desire to learn. The APP will participate in the education of learners (students and new employees), using clinical learning experiences, knowledge sharing and skill training.
