Position: Payroll Manager

Monogram Health is seeking a Payroll Manager to lead end-to-end, multi-state payroll operations, ensuring accurate and timely processing in compliance with all federal, state, and local requirements. This role manages a team of payroll professionals and serves as the primary liaison with our HCM partner (UKG) and external agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end, multi-state payroll operations, ensuring accurate and compliant processing of timekeeping, tax withholdings, garnishments, and deductions, while driving standardization and scalability.
  • Manage, coach, and develop the payroll team, fostering a high-performing, accountable, and continuously improving function.
  • Ensure accurate, timely quarterly and annual agency filings; manage all tax remittances and statutory reporting.
  • Maintain Federal, State, and Local account IDs and tax rates in UKG in coordination with the HCM partner.
  • Partner closely with Accounting and Finance to support payroll funding, bank interfaces, general ledger mapping, journal entries, and financial reporting accuracy.
  • Serve as the lead for all payroll-related audits (workers' compensation, financial, and regulatory), ensuring audit readiness, strong internal controls, and timely documentation.
  • Develop and maintain payroll policies, procedures, and controls aligned with labor laws and company policy.
  • Regularly engage with senior leadership to present payroll performance, trends, and risk areas, providing strategic insights and recommendations to support operational and financial decision-making.
  • Drive continuous process improvement; test, deploy, and measure enhancements across payroll and HRIS workflows.
  • Monitor open cases with the HCM partner through resolution; maintain current system and training documentation.
  • Stay current on payroll, wage, and hour regulations at federal, state, and local levels and new and continuing payroll initiatives.
  • Partner with HR to maintain accurate employee data across new hires, terminations, and transfers.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with HR, Finance, and Operations to support strategic initiatives, workforce planning, and business objectives.
  • Build and maintain relationships with external vendors including benefits providers and tax agencies.


Position Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field or equivalent relevant experience required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in payroll accounting, including at least three (3) years in a supervisory or management capacity.
  • Experience with UKG Pro (HCM) and Workforce Management required.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multi-state payroll operations.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including formulas and pivot tables) and experience with HRIS/payroll systems and database management.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll regulations, including wage and hour laws.
  • Strong understanding of HR policies, procedures, and employment law compliance.
  • Proven ability to analyze data, generate reports, and present findings to stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify process inefficiencies and implement improvements across payroll, HRIS, and related functions (e.g., accounts payable).
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
