A day in the life
The Payroll Analyst performs and manages day-to-day payroll operations to support timely and accurate payment to employees and taxing authorities. This role manages U.S. bi-weekly payroll in Workday and coordinates Canada bi-weekly payroll with a third-party provider. The role partners closely with Human Resources, Accounting, Tax, Stock Compensation, external payroll providers, tax consultants, and taxing authorities to maintain payroll accuracy and compliance. This position also supports reporting, audits, and process improvements that help the payroll function operate efficiently and meet business needs.
Key responsibilities include:
- Manage day-to-day and on-demand payroll processing to align with business needs and deposit requirements.
- Administer U.S. bi-weekly payroll in Workday and coordinate Canada bi-weekly payroll with a third-party payroll provider.
- Identify payroll reporting needs and collaborate with internal teams to create, maintain, and deliver reports and supporting documentation.
- Monitor changes to federal, state, and local tax rules and regulations, and coordinate required payroll compliance updates in Workday and third-party systems.
- Prepare and sign payroll funding wire requests as first authorizer and initiate periodic payroll audits for payroll and other departments.
- Serve as a primary contact for payroll inquiries and partner with Human Resources, Accounting, Tax, and Stock Compensation to research and resolve issues.
- Support department objectives through data analysis, process improvements, and cross-functional collaboration to improve payroll operations.
Building blocks for success
Required:
- 5+ years of payroll experience.
- Experience processing payroll in Workday.
- Detailed knowledge of current U.S. payroll and benefits laws and regulations.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax compliance requirements.
- Experience preparing payroll reports, audits, and supporting documentation for internal stakeholders and external partners.
- Understanding of U.S. stock plans and bonus administration.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Ability to prioritize multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment while meeting timelines with accuracy.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and sound judgment.
- Strong analytical, written, verbal, and customer service skills.
Preferred:
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP).
- General knowledge of global payroll rules and regulations.
- Canada payroll experience.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrates willingness and capability to leverage emerging technology, automation, and AI tools to improve efficiency, quality, and speed. Exercises sound judgment, creative thinking, and accountability for outcomes.
Hiring Salary Range of: $75,600 - $92,400. Salary and whole compensation package (bonus target) to be determined by the candidate’s location, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
