What you'll do

Under the general supervision of a pathologist, the Pathologists Assistant provides various services in both surgical and autopsy pathology. The primary responsibilities include gross examination and dissection of anatomic pathology specimens and the performance of post mortem examinations.

  • Provides preparation, gross description and dissection of surgical specimens in accordance to established protocols in a timely manner
  • Selects and prepares representative tissue sections for histologic and microscopic examination including frozen sections, following established guidelines
  • Assists the pathologists in performing the post mortem examination in accordance to established protocols in a timely manner
  • Provides technical and administrative support for Bassett sponsored conferences and projects as requested by physicians
  • Follows all institution and department policies and procedures
  • Understands the role and responsibilities of individual members as part of the health care team including their ability to promote the delivery of quality healthcare
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work environment
  • Review work of students and residents as assigned
  • Is self-directed
  • Prioritizes tasks without intervention from manager/supervisor or pathologists
  • Works productively with minimal errors and follow up
  • Serves as a technical resource for other staff members, sharing knowledge proactively with other members of the section, shift, or lab
  • Routinely self-motivated and enthusiast
  • Follows up appropriately when problems are encountered in an independent manner

  • Interacts with providers and staff providing constructive feedback for process improvement
  • Frozen sectioning triage and cutting
  • Performs other duties within their scope of practice

What we need from you

Education:
  • 4 Year/Bachelor's Degree in Science related field, required
  • Master's Degree in Science related field, preferred

Experience:
  • Minimum 1 year Pathologist's Assistant training, required

Licensure/Certifications:
  • NYS SED as a Pathologist's Assistant, required
  • Or
  • Licensure-eligible with limited permit as a Pathologist's Assistant, required
  • Or
  • Limited Permit is granted to individuals that meet the educational requirements for licensure except for the licensing examination, which must be taken within one year from the issuance of a limited permit, required

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent typing/clerical/dexterity, grasping, hearing, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, seeing/monitor/computer use, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity (color, depth, perception)
  • Constant fit testing

Hazards:
  • Occasional electrical, mechanical, radiation/radiant energy
  • Frequent bodily fluids/bloodborne exposure, chemical

Working Conditions:
  • Occasional fumes, gases, odors

Travel:
  • Occasional Travel - The job may require travel from time- to-time, but not on a regular basis

Salary is based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and fair market evaluation based on industry standards. USD $120,557.57/Yr.
Pay Range Maximum:

USD $180,836.35/Yr.
