Job Overview

Provides medical direction for the clinical and/or anatomic pathology laboratories in compliance with standards defined by regulatory agencies and hospital quality assurance program. In partnership with the Operational Director leads a care team(s) to achieve the organization's mission and strategic goals. This role manages the strategy and execution of day-to-day operations of one or more departments. Is responsible for providing leadership to the Pathologists and will also support the Service Line with projects and committees or programmatic mgmt as assigned. Assists in development of short term and long-term plans or projects that align to the Service Line and organizational strategies. Medical Director is accountable for the provider budget, productivity, and overall performance.

Responsibilities
  • In collaboration with CLIA director, provides oversight of designated Anatomic Pathology (AP) and/or Clinical Pathology (CP) lab activities.
  • Supports day to day problem solving and decision making of lab operations, as needed.
  • Participates in strategy development, vendor selection and test validation processes
  • Ability to work in a highly matrixed environment.
  • Appreciates the complexity of a large integrated health system and collaborates with peers to navigate system decision making.
  • Partners with other providers, leaders, and staff to assure the best possible clinical and business outcomes for the discipline.
  • Collaborates with other specialties on patient care needs, including nursing, pharmacy, referring physicians, etc. • Gives input and actively participates in system initiatives regarding financial efficiency, programmatic growth, innovation, etc.
  • Collaborates with the medical staff and supports investigation when a problem occurs regarding laboratory work which directly affects patient care.
  • Provides supervision and direction to Pathology Program Medical Directors and Pathologists.
  • Builds, develops, and leads a diverse, high performing team. • Provides people leadership and management to other pathologists within practice.
  • Manage conflict and demonstrate a collaborative approach with all partners.
  • Maintains knowledge of and complies with all relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and standards for Fairview.
  • In partnership with the operations leader oversees the development and management of financial budgets for their departments(s). Along with the leader is accountable for closing gaps in outcomes.


Required Qualifications
  • Doctor of Medicine Doctoral degree from an accredited institution as specified in CLIA '88 or
  • Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Doctoral degree from an accredited institution as specified in CLIA '88 or
  • 5 years Clinical practice that demonstrates success in quality, clinical variation, practice management, and patient experience.
  • Licensed physician in the State of Minnesota. State of Minnesota and
  • Anatomic Pathology -OR- Anatomic and Clinical Pathology -OR- Clinical Pathology American Board of Pathology or the American Osteopathic Board of Pathology and

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in a leadership position supervising other medical providers
