Parts Manager (Business Unit Manager)

We are recruiting for a Parts Managerfor our location in Peterborough, ON. BWXT NEC's Fuel Handling and Engineered Solutions group is involved in the design, manufacture, development, testing, parts supply, and service of on-power refueling, reactor maintenance, and nuclear medicine delivery tooling sold around the world. We are the original designer of the automated systems that allow 24/7 on power refueling of CANDU reactors and aim to solve some of the Nuclear Industry's most challenging problems. Today, BWXT's equipment is being used in most of the nuclear power plants in Canada and is critical to delivering carbon free energy production and lifesaving medical isotopes.

Our Role:

The Parts Manager is required to lead and be accountable for the execution of build-to-print manufacturing projects for the Parts (transactional parts orders) program at Fuel Handling and Engineered Services. This role is involved in long-term planning, and contribute to the overall business strategy

Your Day to Day:
  • Functional leadership of a multidiscipline team that is accountable to deliver a diverse array of previously designed, custom manufactured components to support customer maintenance needs. This position will also be responsible for implementing process simplification and streamlined practices from the industry. This position requires frequent interaction with customers as well as internal operational groups as a highly strategic part of an integrated approach:
    • Provide strategic leadership for multidiscipline team in the execution of T Part projects
    • Achieving and maintaining effective project planning, reporting management, milestone completion on-time / on-budget, meeting metrics, and achieving results through influencing, actions and setting of expectations.
    • Building and maintaining customer relationships through regular meetings with key customer senior staff. Resolving customer conflicts when necessary. Leading the negotiation of new customer contracts.
    • Leading continual change efforts to achieve cost reduction and process simplification and foster a positive, productive work environment based on teamwork and employee engagement.
    • Establishing departmental plans and goals including success criteria, risks, activities, deliverables, resource requirements and budget.
    • Holding communication meetings with staff to relay goals, objectives, expectations and other general information impacting the function.
    • Recruiting and developing staff, including retention and training for the department.
    • Understanding and ensuring staff compliance with applicable external codes, regulations and guidelines as well as internal standards set by BWXT. Coaching and mentoring staff to achieve best in class results
    • Prepare and approve estimates and customer proposals for large manufacturing projects in accordance with business Delegation of Authority (DOA) structure. Review and approve customer PO's in accordance with DOA.
    • Interface with supply chain and associated vendors as required in regards to technical challenges and associated performance variances.
    • Develop pricing strategies in conjunction with commercial operations for strategic manufacturing bids.
    • Conduct facility tours for key suppliers and customers.
    • Recommend approach to meet the technical and program requirements.
    • Communicate with Design, Quality, Production, and Project Management on technical state of each assigned program on a periodic basis.


Qualifications:
  • Bachelors Degree or Technical Degree/Diploma in Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 5 years of experience in a manufacturing, procurement &/or equivalent work-related experience.
  • Minimum 3 years in a leadership position.
  • Knowledge or experience with metrology, Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerances (GD&T), blue print reading.
  • Demonstrated ability in project planning / execution, including development of processes/procedures and process improvements.
  • Very strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic knowledge of common non-destructive examination (NDE) techniques.
  • Experience working with ASME Code rules for identification and traceability of materials, manufacturing processes, testing etc.
  • Experience with manufacturing of instrumentation and control equipment, PLC systems, cable assemblies, panels, industrial automation. Familiar with wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, instrument calibration.
  • Technical writing experience including procedures, customer proposals, technical reports.
  • Experience in cost-estimating multi-disciplined equipment and facility projects.
  • Experience with Primavera (P6) project scheduling software

The base salary range for this position in Ontario at the start of employment is expected to be between $89,000 and $139,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment.
