Position Summary

Under supervision of an assigned supervisor/manager, plan, coordinate, organize and provide a variety of student services and information on college programs to facilitate recruitment and retention of students.

About the Department
This position is located in the Outreach, First Year Experience & Pathway Communities department. The department maintains a focus on increasing college access, engagement, enrollment, and retention for prospective and current Black and African American students and their families. The position will support outreach and recruitment efforts at American River College's feeder high schools and at community events serving Black and African American students and communities. The position will develop and sustain collaborative relationships with schools, community-based organizations, faith-based organizations, and other partners that support Black and African American students and families. The position will also work collaboratively with existing college programs, employee resource groups, affinity-based initiatives, and equity-focused teams to help ensure that prospective Black and African American students receive culturally responsive guidance throughout the application, enrollment, and matriculation processes and have a clear understanding of the programs, services, resources, and opportunities available at American River College.

Typical Duties
Explain college programs, enrollment process, and services to individuals and community organizations; provide referrals to students, staff and community organizations on college programs and procedures and seek information concerning the need for additional programs; work with college staff, faculty and administration to develop, organize, and coordinate activities and events that facilitate student orientation and outreach designed to promote recruitment efforts, such as first generation, former foster youth, undocumented students and other underrepresented populations; foster relationships with local feeder high schools, governmental agencies and community based organizations through in-person, written and electronic communication; coordinate Early Alert/Assistance program, and one-stop philosophy related to recruitment and matriculation efforts;. represent the college at community functions and organizational meetings; develop, organize, supervise and attend workshops, forums, conferences, and related college-sponsored events; assist in the development and/or selection of marketing and promotional materials, such as appropriate media packages, and interface with other college departments on marketing strategies; conduct orientation session and periodic training sessions and workshops for peer assistants, student ambassadors and student workers; assist in budget planning and maintenance; hire, train, and oversee student ambassadors and student workers; track student contacts to monitor services required and provide follow-up throughout the enrollment process; provide data for institutional research; perform follow-up studies and evaluations of outreach services; develop and maintain the outreach master calendar; perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
EXPERIENCE: Two years of experience in a variety of student or community service programs.
EDUCATION: Completion of a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. NOTE: Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for up to two years of the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Have an equity-minded focus, responsiveness, and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles; and successfully foster and support an inclusive educational and employment environment.
(Experience Requirement: One year of experience is equal to 12 months of experience at 40 hours per week. Applicable part-time experience will be converted to the full-time equivalent for purposes of meeting the experience requirement. Education Requirement: One year of education is equal to 30 semester units.)

You are eligible for the aforementioned benefits as a regular employee with a permanent assignment of 0.50 FTE or greater. To calculate this position's FTE, take the number of hours per week divided by 40, to get the percentage of hours worked. Then take the number of months worked divided by 12, to get the percentage of work year. Then take the percentage of hours worked multiplied by the percentage of months worked to get the position's FTE (e.g., a position that is 30 hours per week with a work year of 10 months: 30/40 = 0.75; 10/12 = 0.8333; 0.75 * 0.8333 = 0.625 FTE).
