About the Job

The Opportunity:

  • Optimization Planning Engineer at a growth-oriented energy company

  • Reporting to the Planning & Economics Manager, you will be primarily tasked with creating refinery-wide operating plans that are safe, feasible, and economically optimized.


Key activities include::

  • Runs Linear Program to evaluate near term refinery operations and help build an economically optimized plan. Communicates plan to refinery and corporate. Presents 3 month plan for Wyoming refinery company to refinery and corporate leadership, during Monthly Operating Plan meetings.
  • Coordinates all refinery LP model changes and updates with the assistance of Haverly and/or outside consultant help as needed. Runs LP Model weekly to select crudes to purchase.
  • Occasionally update crude assays in HCAMS and/or HCOMET (shared responsibility).
  • Responsible to run and maintain the LP results summary file (Excel using HCAMs / PIMS). This tool is used weekly to generate the crude schedule and yields that form the basis for production, inventory and financial forecast for the Rocky Mountain region.
  • Performs economic analysis on production opportunities and helps monitor unit optimization.
  • Periodically performs LP backcast analysis for refinery and reports results to leadership.
  • Develops weekly spreadsheet crude charge plan, interacting with refinery Ops and scheduler.
  • Assists in generating weekly Production Pipeline schedules.
  • Communicates crude run plan/actual/forecast and anticipated constraints to refinery leadership during weekly Refinery Production Planning meetings.
  • Engages technical skills to improve spreadsheet tools that are used for economic analysis and blending. Creates new spreadsheet tools as needed.
  • Manage gasoline, ULSD, and Jet inventory, and customer product availability. Working with operations to blend products to reginal specifications.
  • Prepare weekly refinery inventory stewardship, share with accounting and risk groups in HQ Houston.
  • Develop proficiency in crude delivery scheduling and product gasoline / diesel blending for team coverage support. Anticipate on call support 33% of weekends and holidays. (Remote with strong internet connection OK for on call support).
  • Other job duties are required and directed.

Additional qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical or mechanical engineering required.
  • Minimum 3 years of oil refining experience in Process Engineering and/or Operations required.
  • Minimum 5 years of oil refining experience, especially in Planning and Economics, Operations and Process Engineering preferred.
  • Experience running a LP (Haverly GRTMPS or PIMS) preferred.
  • Experience building and maintaining a LP (Haverly GRTMPS or PIMS) preferred.
  • Experience using Haverly HCAMS to process crude assays preferred.
  • Must also have computer skills including proficiency with Windows and Microsoft Office suite programs, especially Excel required.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks while meeting deadlines and production requirements required.
