Job DescriptionPosition SummaryThe Optician is responsible for assisting patients with the selection, fitting, and dispensing of eyewear, ensuring that patients receive the highest level of customer service and care. This role also supports the overall operations of the optical department by maintaining accurate records, managing inventory, and collaborating with providers and staff to deliver a positive patient experience.
Key Responsibilities- Greet and assist patients in selecting eyeglass frames and lenses based on prescription, lifestyle, and personal preference.
- Accurately measure and fit eyeglasses to ensure proper alignment and vision correction.
- Educate patients on eyewear options including:
- Anti-reflective coatings to reduce glare and improve vision.
- Transition/photochromic lenses for light-adaptive comfort.
- Progressive lenses for seamless near, intermediate, and distance vision. - Dispense eyewear, verify prescriptions, and make necessary adjustments for comfort and function.
- Process eyewear orders through approved vendors and track progress to ensure timely delivery.
- Maintain optical inventory, including ordering, receiving, and displaying frames.
- Perform minor repairs and adjustments to patient eyewear as needed.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and company policies at all times.
- Maintain accurate patient records in the practice management system.
- Provide excellent customer service, addressing patient questions and concerns professionally.
Qualifications & Skills- Optician licensure required.
- Prior experience in an optical or healthcare setting strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of eyeglass frames, lenses, and contact lenses.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
- Ability to use practice management software and basic computer applications.
- Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and professionalism.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements- Prolonged periods of standing and sitting.
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs (e.g., boxes of frames or supplies).
- Frequent interaction with patients, staff, and vendors.
Pay Range: $35.19 - $43.99 Hourly
The provided compensation range is based on industry standards and salary determinations will be made based on numerous factors including but not limited to years of experience and location of position.
