The Opportunity

Tetra Tech is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead and expand our environmental consulting operations in Atlanta, GA, supporting projects across the Southeast region.

Position Summary

The Operations Manager will oversee teams operating out of Duluth, GA, and Louisville, KY, providing strategic leadership, business development, and operational oversight for environmental contracts including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under the Superfund Technical Assessment and Response Team (START) contract.

The successful candidate will lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers, scientists, geologists, and emergency response specialists, fostering collaboration and ensuring seamless project execution and financial performance.

Essential Job Functions

• Provide strategic leadership and day-to-day management for environmental consulting operations across the Southeast region. This includes resource allocation, project scheduling, and performance monitoring.
• Lead project teams to achieve project milestones and deliverables on schedule, ensuring that all work meets the highest quality standards.
• Collaborate closely with the program management team to implement EPA START contracts effectively, ensuring alignment with project goals and compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Identify opportunities for business growth and pursue new contract opportunities, fostering relationships with key stakeholders.
• Provide technical direction and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, internal controls, and policies.
• Actively engage in proposal development, pricing strategies, and marketing initiatives.
• Ensure financial performance of the operation, including P&L, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.
• Mentor and develop staff to expand a strong, capable team.
• Adhere to Tetra Tech's health and safety standards.

Required Qualifications
• A minimum of 12 years in environmental consulting, federal contracting, and program management with expertise in CERCLA site investigations, emergency response, hazardous waste management, and regulatory compliance (CERCLA, & RCRA).
• Bachelor's degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field.
• Strong knowledge of the Federal market sector, including EPA START contracts, DOD environmental programs, and remediation technologies.
• Strong client relations and regulatory liaison experience with EPA, DOD, and state agencies.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills for industry and stakeholder engagements
• Excellent business acumen (P&L, project budgeting, forecasting, and risk management)
• Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills.
• Candidate must be a citizen of the United States of America.
• Candidate must be able to pass a criminal background check.
• This position requires driving on a regular basis. Passing a motor vehicle record background check and maintaining a valid driver's license and good driving record is required.

This role demands a strategic leader with technical expertise, business acumen, and strong client engagement skills to drive Tetra Tech's environmental operations in the Southeast region.

Preferred Qualifications
• Master's degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field.
• Professional certifications, such as Professional Engineer (PE) license, Professional Geologist (PG) license, or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) credential.
• Proven track record in senior leadership roles, managing large teams (40+ people) in business development, and strategic growth.
• Demonstrated success in building and executing growth strategies that deliver measurable results, specifically in the environmental consulting field.
• Experience working in fast-paced, high-growth environments.

Physical Requirements

The role is primarily in an office setting. Candidate must be able to work at a computer in an office environment for office-based tasks for a prolonged period.

Work Environment / Environmental Factors
• We continue to build a tight-knit team in an office-based environment. The candidate is expected to be physically present in the office each day, with an entrepreneurial spirit and excitement about developing new opportunities and successes for the team.
• Travel up to 10% to other Tetra Tech offices and various client sites, as well as for operational planning and other internal corporate collaboration meetings, is required.
