Job Summary
The Operations Manager has overall responsibility for the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of a Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) power generation facility. This role provides leadership and direction for plant operations, safety, environmental and regulatory compliance, operational planning, and coordination with maintenance and technical support functions to achieve high levels of performance and availability.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

Plant Operations & Performance
  • Lead and direct day-to-day operations, including gas turbines, HRSGs, steam turbines, balance of plant, and auxiliary systems.
  • Ensure plant operations comply with dispatch requirements, operating procedures, OEM recommendations, and regulatory limitations.
  • Drive continuous improvement in safety, reliability, availability, and efficiency.
  • Serve as the primary operational authority for abnormal operations, forced outages, and operational decision making.


Safety, Environmental & Regulatory Compliance
  • NERC Champion - site ownership of NERC process, tracking, reporting and coordination
  • Maintain compliance with all OSHA, EPA, state, and local regulations applicable to combined cycle operations.
  • Promote and sustain a strong safety culture, including incident investigation, corrective action development, and behavioral safety initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with air, water, and waste permits, environmental monitoring, and regulatory reporting requirements.


Maintenance & Technical Coordination
  • Coordinate closely with the maintenance department to align preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance with operational priorities.
  • Provide operational input and Lock Out Tag Out roadmap for outage planning, execution, and post-outage performance reviews.
  • Support engineering and OEM engagements related to gas turbines, steam turbines, HRSGs, controls, and balance of plant systems.


Planning, Resources & Capital Support
  • Develop and execute short- and long-term operational plans in support of site and fleet objectives.
  • Support the Long Rang Planning process for O&M and Capital by providing operational justification and prioritization with a focus on safety, reliability, and performance improvements.
  • Support project planning and execution to ensure operational readiness, commissioning, and seamless return to service.


Leadership & Employee Development
  • Lead, coach, and develop plant operations personnel.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing, qualification progression, and training for operations personnel.
  • Support employee engagement and performance management.


Communication & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Serve as the primary site operations interface with plant leadership, corporate support groups, and regulatory agencies.
  • Support internal and external communications related to plant performance, outages, and compliance activities.


Education, Experience, and Skill Requirements:

  • 7 years supervisory/management experience
  • Experience with operations and maintenance at a power plant
  • Plant operational / Technical background or Instrumentation and Control background is a plus
  • Experience with trending in PI Process book or another plant historian for event troubleshooting / root cause analysis
  • Power generation plant leadership, communication, problem solving and decision-making skills preferred
  • Good computer skills using Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Experience in computer maintenance management systems and an understanding of PMMS and/or Maximo programs preferred
  • Candidate must be experienced in using Maximo for planning work and creating purchase requests
  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • Experience gained through college degree programs and/or certifications is applicable to some of the skills listed
