Operations Manager, forour
New Orleans Division. This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position reporting to the General Manager.
POSITION SUMMARYThe Operations Manager New Orleans is accountable for supporting the safe, compliant, effective, and efficient operation of marine assets and shoreside activities within the port. This includes oversight of personnel, management of assets, and administration of facilities.
The position supports the monitoring and effectiveness of Moran Towing Corporation's ("Moran" or "Company") Safety Management System (SMS), ensuring it applies to both marine equipment and personnel. The Operations Manager is required to align with the Company's Mission Statement in all decision-making, including promoting a strong safety culture, encouraging safe behaviors, evaluating and managing risks, serving as a role model, and supporting or providing training and development for staff.
To maintain the Moran brand's position as a leading force in the industry, the Operations Manager will continue to cultivate robust relationships with customers, vendors, regulatory authorities, and all Moran personnel in both operational and support capacities.
Key Responsibilities Supporting the VP/GM:Operations:- Manage Dispatchers and ensure that jobs are tracked and billed correctly
- Review bills to ensure that they are correct and submitted to the customer
- Review upcoming jobs and work with GM and Dispatch team to ensure that tugs are manned and positioned to execute work
- Help manage vessel crewing, including mariner placement onboard and crew change
- Support mariner education and progression
- Help conduct yearly evaluations for Captains
- Recruit and hire mariners as needed
- Ensure all assets are operated and maintained according to Moran's standards
- Support response to incidents
- Administer use of Origami software for injury and damage reporting
- Perform investigations into injuries or accidents
- Perform Visible Leadership Visits
- Assist in managing leased facilities and/or equipment
- Drive innovative solutions and ongoing improvements across local operations
- Support implementation of the Safety Management System (SMS), including:
- Promoting safe work practices
- Near Miss program
- Onboard safety drills
- Ensuring clear communication and engagement around corporate safety documents, newsletters, and initiatives
- Compliance with Subchapter M, Certificate of Inspection (COI), USCG, ABS, and other relevant regulations
- Successful completion of internal and external audits
- Recommend and implement corrective actions
- Serve actively on the Quality Steering Committee
- Confirm employee training as per Moran's Center for Learning and SMS guidelines
Business:- Evaluate how the marketplace performs regarding assets, pricing, and market share
- Build strong relationships with local port clients, agents, and regulators
- Handle customer requests for pricing, bids, and related matters
- Seek and assess potential new business opportunities
- Provide support to the corporate Sales Department with specific accounts
- Help develop new business and share local expertise when requested
- Participate in Greater New Orleans Harbor Safety Committee meetings and other local relevant industry groups
Engineering:- Assist review of engineering efforts to ensure vessel reliability and ongoing improvement through systems such as Helm
- Assist the Engineering Team for safe, effective, and efficient operations
- Assist in reviewing and updating drydock specifications
- Track and manage fuel usage and related costs
Accounting:- Participate in developing and overseeing the Division's annual budget
- Monitor the Division's financial performance
- Supervise both Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable functions
- Review each payroll period to ensure accuracy
- Evaluate employee compensation to ensure it aligns with industry standards and individual performance
REQUIRED QUALFICATIONS- Minimum 2-year college degree; however, relevant work experience will be considered with education.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant operations experience in the tug/towing industry.
- Valid driver's license and Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC).
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office, e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Prior experience demonstrating successful management, leadership, and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills, including ability to speak publicly.
- Ability to take initiative, prioritize, multi-task, operate in stressful situations, and make quick decisions.
- Ability to analyze data, including demonstrated analytical skills in Power BI, Excel pivot tables, etc. to measure and review performance.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:- Ability to board a vessel while moored via barge landing or underway via crew boat and withstand tug motion and high temperature areas for periods of time.
- Ability to: cross bulwarks; frequently walk, including on uneven surfaces; climb ladders and stairs; stoop; bend; stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; and use a keyboard and computer screen.
- Ability to travel, including air travel.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:- College Degree in marine transportation, marine engineering, or business.
- Inherent knowledge of the marine business in the New Orleans area.
WORKING CONDITIONS:- Hours of work are business hours Monday through Friday, but the incumbent must be available, if required, during off-hours, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be able to travel up to 10% of the time.

$115,000.00 - $140,000.00 per year. This pay range represents Moran's commitment to pay transparency and is a reasonable estimate of possible compensation for this role at the time of posting. The final salary for this role will be determined based on careful consideration of a variety of factors, such as the candidate's exact location, experience, and expertise related to the qualifications.
