Summary:

The Operations Manager Engineering oversees the daily operation of the Facilities Maintenance Department and ensures that all facilities are managed and maintained in a safe and effective manner.

Responsibilities:
1. Adds value as a key member of management; understands the business, financials, industry, customers and strategy.

2. Supervises employees, provides direction, coaches, trains, develops, and manages performance to company goals and expectations.

3. Works in coordination with the Director of Facilities in departmental oversight.

4. Prepares, manages, and adheres to department budget to maintain expenditure controls.

5. Oversees the daily operation of the Facilities Maintenance Department.

6. Assigns all work to the Facilities Maintenance crew.

7. Provides direction when needed.

8. Communicates Engineering/Maintenance issues to internal hospital departments and external contacts.

9. Assists in the oversite and management of projects to be performed by Facilities Maintenance and Construction Staff and external contractors within individual hospital departments.

10. Assist contractors with Engineering issues using architectural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing blueprints and drawings.

11. Plans, schedules, and communicates to hospital departments any utility shutdowns due to construction activity [e.g. electric, plumbing, HVAC].

12. Supervises preventive and breakdown maintenance.

13. Follows and enforces building codes, NFPA, environmental, and life safety regulations.

14. Follows and enforces Joint Commission and CMS regulations.

15. Other duties as required.

Technical Expertise
1. Experience with building codes, NFPA, environmental, and life safety regulations is required.

2. Experience in Joint Commission and CMS regulatory bodies is required.

3. Experience in building maintenance is required.

4. Experience with electric, plumbing, HVAC, and refrigeration is required.

5. Experience working with all levels within an organization is required.

6. Experience in healthcare is preferred.

7. Proficiency in MS Office [Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint] or similar software is required. High level of proficiency with CMMS software is required.

8. High degree of technical MEP experience and direct construction experience (foreman or GC) preferred.

Education and Experience
1. Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required; Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field is preferred.

2. Certification: CHFM or CLSS-HC is preferred.

3. Years of relevant experience: 5 to 7 years is preferred.

4. Years of experience supervising: 3 to 5 years is preferred.
  • Possesses a valid State driver's license and ability to obtain and maintain insurability as determined by the ACH insurance carrier's requirements.
  • An annual physical is required to be completed with the Akron Children's Hospital Employee Health Department.
