Job Summary

The Operations Manager is responsible for the strategic leadership, performance, and compliance of warehouse and distribution operations supporting the storage, handling, and distribution of temperature-sensitive blood plasma and biologic products. This role provides leadership across multiple functional areas, including receiving, putaway, replenishment, inventory control, picking, packing, shipping, and transportation coordination.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership
  • Provide leadership and direction for all warehouse and plasma distribution operations.
  • Establish operational strategies to achieve customer service, quality, inventory, safety, and financial objectives.
  • Monitor and analyze operational performance metrics, identifying trends and implementing corrective actions when necessary.
  • Develop workforce plans to support current and future business requirements.
  • Partner with site leadership to support business growth, customer onboarding, capacity planning, and operational scalability.
  • Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead daily, weekly, and monthly operational reviews focused on performance, service, quality, and continuous improvement.


Plasma Operations
  • Provide oversight for the receipt, storage, movement, and distribution of blood plasma and plasma-derived products.
  • Ensure compliance with all customer requirements, GMP, GDP, FDA, OSHA, and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Lead investigations involving product variances, quality events, temperature excursions, customer complaints, and inventory discrepancies.
  • Partner with Quality leadership to ensure audit readiness and successful customer, regulatory, and internal audits.
  • Drive initiatives to enhance product integrity, process compliance, and customer satisfaction.


Financial & Business Management
  • Analyze labor utilization, productivity, and throughput metrics to maximize operational efficiency.
  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction while maintaining service, quality, and compliance standards.
  • Support contract performance requirements and customer service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Participate in customer business reviews and operational performance discussions.
  • Develop business cases and recommendations for staffing, equipment, technology, and capital investments.


Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with all company safety policies, regulatory requirements, and environmental standards.
  • Review incident trends and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Lead investigations involving workplace injuries, near misses, product incidents, and compliance concerns.
  • Ensure completion of required certifications, regulatory training, and compliance programs.


Leadership & Talent Development
  • Lead, coach, and develop supervisors, team leads, and operational personnel.
  • Establish clear performance expectations and accountability measures.
  • Conduct performance reviews, talent assessments, succession planning, and development discussions.
  • Support recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and retention efforts.


Continuous Improvement
  • Lead Lean, Six Sigma, and operational excellence initiatives.
  • Drive improvements in productivity, quality, inventory accuracy, service performance, and employee engagement.
  • Utilize data and operational metrics to identify opportunities and measure results.
  • Partner with Engineering, Quality, and Inventory Control teams to improve processes and eliminate waste.
  • Implement sustainable solutions that improve throughput, compliance, and customer satisfaction.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, Operations Management, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in warehouse, distribution, logistics, manufacturing, or supply chain operations.
  • Experience operating within a regulated environment preferred, including pharmaceutical, biologics, healthcare, cold chain, or FDA-regulated operations.
  • Strong knowledge of inventory management, warehouse operations, transportation, and material handling systems.
  • Demonstrated experience managing operational metrics, budgets, labor planning, and customer service performance.
  • Experience leading continuous improvement and process optimization initiatives.
  • Strong communication, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), inventory management tools, and Microsoft Office applications.


Schedule
  • Primary support for operations running:
    • Sunday - Wednesday, 7:00 AM start, and/or
    • Wednesday - Saturday, 7:00 AM start
  • Must maintain flexibility to support multiple shifts, weekends, holidays, and changing business requirements.
  • Schedule and support requirements are subject to change based on customer and business needs.


Working Conditions
  • Regular leadership presence within warehouse, refrigerated, freezer, and ultra-low temperature environments ranging from -20°C to -30°C.
  • Exposure to blood plasma, biologic products, and materials requiring specialized handling procedures.
  • Ability to wear required cold-weather gear and personal protective equipment while supporting operations.
  • Frequent walking, standing, and facility inspections across operational areas.


This position serves as a senior operational leader responsible for the safe, compliant, and efficient storage, movement, and distribution of temperature-sensitive blood plasma and biologic products while driving business performance, customer satisfaction, employee development, and continuous improvement initiatives.
