Full Job Description
The Opportunity

Tetra Tech is looking for a full-time Energy Efficiency Professional/Energy Engineer to serve as a Resource Efficiency Manager (REM) on site at the Presidio of Monterey in California.

Position Summary

The selected candidate will:
  • Work as a member of a the Tetra Tech Energy Team to provide comprehensive energy management services to support the Presidio of Monterey.
  • Serve as the primary resource for facility energy needs to identify energy conservation opportunities and facilitate the implementation of projects, initiatives, and programs aimed at reducing energy consumption and demand, saving costs, and promoting environmental sustainability.
  • Work collaboratively with both the customer and Tetra Tech, acting as an on-site agent to drive energy and cost savings while achieving federal and Army objectives.


Essential Job Functions

The following duties are considered essential to the role. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions. Primary duties will focus on energy management, including energy program management services to include:
  • Manage energy efficiency programs and initiatives.
  • Walking facilities to perform energy audits and identify conservation opportunities.
  • Developing and proposing energy efficiency improvements for various facilities.
  • Analyzing and developing distributed generation and renewable energy projects.
  • Providing energy training and support to client staff.
  • Assisting in development and reviewing energy performance contracts.
  • Conducting design reviews and analyzing energy and utility data.
  • Recommending improvements to energy and utility procurement operations and maintenance.
  • Writing technically sound audit and other reports.
  • Supporting construction and implementation of energy projects.
  • Working both independently and collaboratively with the client and other Tetra Tech team members/REMs.


Required Qualifications
  • Degree: none, but less years of experience required based on degree held.
  • Years of Experience:
    • If 4-year Bachelors engineering degree or registered PE - 3 plus years of experience in energy management
    • If Bachelors degree in environmental science, business or other relevant degree - 5 plus years of experience in energy management
    • If 2-year technical degree - 8 plus years of experience in energy management
    • If no degree - 10 plus years of experience in energy management
  • Certifications: Certified Energy Manager (CEM). Other energy related certifications or experience may be accepted in place of this, however you may be required to obtain CEM certification within 6 months of start date.
  • Security Clearances: Able to obtain and maintain US federal contractor security clearance. U.S. citizenship required.
  • Knowledge, skills, experience:
    • Proficient computer skills, including the use of spreadsheets, especially MS Excel, MS Teams, and other database applications.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong HVAC background and experience with design reviews, energy auditing, project development, renewable energy, life-cycle cost analysis, direct digital controls, retro-commissioning, building/system optimization, and facility management
  • Knowledge of utility information systems, energy management technologies, and metering
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, and presentation skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to produce results
  • Ability to produce technically correct finished work, including technical reports, white papers, metrics, and briefs
  • Previous experience working at Federal facilities, especially with the Army, is a plus


Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here represent those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Reasonable accommodations may be made.
  • Exert up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally, up to 10 lbs. of force frequently
  • Safely walk 2 to 3 miles in a few hours around a site climbing stairs and ladders to access roofs, basements, and mechanical rooms.
  • Safely drive to local sites.


Work Environment/Environmental Factors
  • This position requires regular work in an office environment, as well as walking or driving to facilities on the Presidio of Monterey campus or other nearby sites.
  • You need to be able to perform work safely in the California climates year-round outdoors.
  • You may be required to climb ladders and access roofs and narrow mechanical rooms.

The Salary Range for this position is $110,000 - $127,500, depending on education, experience, and skills.
