Full Job Description
THIS POSITION IS PERMANENTLY LOCATED IN SAN BERNARDINO, CA. Under general supervision of the faculty supervisor/Branch Chief, plan, coordinate and manage administrative activities supporting the laboratory. Responsibilities include management of case reporting, personnel/affirmative action, fiscal policies and operations, purchasing, facilities maintenance and providing overall administrative support to the Branch Chief. Function as the IT computer resource support and quality assurance support for the CAHFS San Bernardino laboratory.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • No minimum work experience required.
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills to effectively interact with a wide variety of individuals, to include staff, clients of the CAHFS, and individuals from other University units, government/outside agencies.
  • Personnel management skills to include recruiting, selecting, hiring, training and evaluating staff performance, and to provide conflict resolution, leadership, and motivation.
  • Skills to independently and accurately coordinate diverse tasks related to administrative and managerial functions, understanding diagnostic testing services of multiple laboratory units.
  • Skills to recognize, spell and use veterinary medical terminology correctly, with proper use of grammar and punctuation.
  • Skills to lead, facilitate, and chair meetings which address lab related issues, solve problems and improve quality measures.
  • Skills in use of a financial management information system to accurately perform purchasing, travel and entertainment reimbursement processes.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Technical and practical knowledge of sample submission testing protocols for all diagnostic disciplines of the CAHFS (Bacteriology, Clinical Pathology, Histopathology, Immunology, Mycology, Pathology, Parasitology, Toxicology, Milk Quality and Virology) preferred demonstrated skill and knowledge of CAHFS LIMs procedures to train co-workers, faculty, and other staff regarding same.
  • Solid knowledge of CAHFS and University policies and procedures and ability to interpret and implement same preferred.

Work Environment

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014. Smoking, the use of smokeless tobacco products, and the use of unregulated nicotine products (e-cigarettes) will be strictly prohibited on any UC Davis owned or leased property, indoors and outdoors, including parking lots and residential space.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 8:00am - 5:00pm (Work schedule might be slightly different during the training period). Work flexible schedule/overtime as needed to complete projects and meet deadlines. Mandatory weekend and holiday rotation. Restricted/Limited vacation during peak workload periods (i.e. Outbreaks, Fiscal Close, Audits Periods, etc.). THIS IS NOT AN H1B/J1 OPPORTUNITY. Candidate must be legally permitted to work in the United States and not subject to revocation. This is not a research position. The position is located in a diagnostic laboratory where quality control and assurance as well as meticulous working habits are essential. Per the terms and agreements of the department's contracts and grants, the position requires signing of a Confidentiality Agreement or Non-Disclosure Agreement regarding testing and client information. Ability to complete Select Agent background clearance procedures.
