Full Job Description
Responsibilities:

The Nursing Home Administrator is responsible for the overall day-to-day operation and administration of the skilled nursing facility. The Administrator provides leadership and oversight of clinical and non-clinical operations, resident care and services, regulatory compliance, financial performance, staffing, facility operations, and quality improvement. The Administrator works collaboratively with leadership, team members, residents, families, providers, vendors, and outside agencies to promote a safe, compliant, financially responsible, and resident-centered environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide overall leadership and operational oversight of the skilled nursing facility, maintaining a clear understanding of the performance and needs of each department
  • Partner with Regional leadership and Ownership on strategic planning, operational priorities, performance goals, and initiatives designed to support the long-term success of the facility
  • Implement and administer company policies, procedures, and human resources practices in coordination with Human Resources and in accordance with applicable employment laws and regulations
  • Maintain accountability for the delivery of high-quality resident care and services consistent with regulatory requirements, company standards, resident needs, and established budget objectives
  • Develop, monitor, and manage facility operating expenses in accordance with the approved budget and investigate significant variances or financial concerns
  • Oversee staffing, recruitment, retention, employee engagement, performance management, professional development, and succession planning to support appropriate staffing and strong department leadership
  • Promote effective communication and collaboration among nursing, therapy, dietary, social services, activities, housekeeping, maintenance, business office, admissions, and other departments
  • Coordinate with outside agencies, healthcare providers, vendors, and facility partners to obtain resources and services that support resident care, regulatory compliance, and staff development
  • Ensure the facility, grounds, equipment, and physical environment are properly maintained through preventive maintenance, timely corrective action, and effective oversight of maintenance activities
  • Maintain readiness for surveys, inspections, audits, and other regulatory reviews through ongoing monitoring of operations, documentation, policies, procedures, quality indicators, and corrective action plans
  • Monitor quality of care and service delivery, identify areas of concern, and ensure appropriate follow-up and improvement activities are implemented
  • Establish and promote a culture that reflects warmth, respect, dignity, safety, and genuine concern for residents and their healthcare and personal needs
  • Respond to resident and family concerns in a timely and professional manner and serve as a key liaison between residents, families, employees, providers, and facility leadership
  • Ensure resident rights are respected and that residents, families, and team members receive appropriate education regarding resident rights and responsibilities
  • Oversee admissions and transitions into the facility in collaboration with appropriate departments to support accurate documentation, appropriate services, and a coordinated admission process
  • Maintain an effective environment for staff communication and development by participating in required meetings, leadership meetings, in-services, and other educational activities
  • Maintain the facility's professional image within the facility and represent the organization appropriately with residents, families, referral sources, healthcare partners, regulatory agencies, and the general public
  • Promote positive relationships with residents, families, employees, physicians, vendors, and facility stakeholders while supporting the facility's mission and organizational values
  • Investigate and appropriately address incidents, complaints, injuries, safety concerns, and other matters requiring administrative review
  • Ensure emergency preparedness plans and procedures are maintained and followed, including appropriate response to fire, severe weather, disaster, security, and other emergency situations


Standard Requirements:

  • Support and follow established procedures and programs related to safety, including universal precautions, safe work practices, emergency preparedness, fire and disaster plans, risk management, security, and the prompt reporting or correction of unsafe conditions and maintenance concerns
  • Protect the confidentiality and security of resident, employee, clinical, financial, and organizational information
  • Maintain compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, licensing requirements, and company policies, including requirements related to a workplace free from unlawful harassment and discrimination
  • Promote teamwork and effective collaboration among departments and team members
  • Communicate respectfully and professionally, particularly when addressing sensitive, confidential, or emotionally difficult situations involving residents, families, employees, or external partners
  • Complete required in-service education and training and maintain attendance, appearance, dress, and other workplace standards
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support the safe and effective operation of the facility


Compliance and Safety:

  • Enforces OSHA regulations and safety procedures
  • Ensures full compliance with all laws and regulations related to the operation of a skilled nursing facility
  • Follows all emergency procedures
  • Understands the safety policies and procedures
  • Investigates and reviews all skilled nursing on-site injuries


Educational Requirements and Experience:
• Current Nursing Home Administrator (NHA) license to practice as a skilled nursing facility administrator in the applicable state.
• Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in healthcare administration, business administration, health services, or a related field; a graduate degree is preferred.
• Two years of related management or administrative experience is preferred, with experience in skilled nursing, healthcare, senior living, long-term care, or a related healthcare setting strongly preferred.
• Maintain all required continuing education and licensing requirements necessary to remain eligible to serve as a Nursing Home Administrator.

Miscellaneous:

  • Required to work weekends and holidays as assigned
  • May be video recorded from devices installed by families in residents' apartments
  • May have picture taken and image used in social media or facility advertising
  • Subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including HIV, AIDS, and Hepatitis B & C viruses
  • May be subject to hostile and emotionally upset Residents due to their mental status
  • Background, criminal, and drug test as required
  • Must be in good physical and emotional health and free of communicable diseases
