St Marys Hospital Superior

Job Description:
Lead nursing at a community hospital on the rise. Over the past several years, Essentia Health St. Mary's Hospital-Superior has grown its inpatient census, added service lines, and brought more care to the Wisconsin side of the Twin Ports. As the senior nursing leader at this 25-bed critical access hospital and Level IV Trauma Center, you will direct the delivery of nursing care across the house - partnering with the hospital administrator, medical staff, and providers to keep patients moving smoothly across the care continuum. You will thrive here if you lead from the floor as much as the office, enjoy building structure and accountability into a close-knit team, and want what you build to matter.

Education Qualifications:

Master's degree required.

What You Will Do

  • Direct, manage, and evaluate the delivery of nursing care and patient support services across the hospital - acute/med-surg, emergency, transitional care, and surgical services.
  • Set the standard of nursing care for your patient population and keep patients moving smoothly across the care continuum.
  • Own staffing, scheduling, resource allocation, and the nursing budget, with accountability for quality, patient experience, safety, and employee engagement.
  • Partner with the hospital administrator, medical staff, and providers to align nursing with the hospital's priorities and continued growth.
  • Build and develop your leaders and front-line staff - orientation, ongoing education, and real development that grows people.
  • Drive process improvement and lead the team through change and new program development.
  • Keep the house ready and compliant with Joint Commission, critical access, and Level IV trauma standards.

What You Will Need

  • 5+ years of nursing experience, including at least 2 years as a Nurse Supervisor or Nurse Manager.
  • Proven experience with organizational change, program development, and process improvement.
  • Strong communication and the ability to build trust across nursing, medical, and operational leadership.

What Makes You a Strong Fit

  • Experience in a critical access or rural community hospital, where leaders wear several hats and stay close to the bedside.
  • Background across med-surg, emergency, transitional/swing-bed, or surgical services nursing.
  • Familiarity with trauma program standards and Joint Commission readiness.
  • A visible, hands-on leadership style - the kind of director who's on the floor, not just behind a desk.
  • Comfort being a thought partner to the administrator and medical staff.

Work Location

  • On-site at Essentia Health St. Mary's Hospital-Superior, 3500 Tower Ave, Superior, WI.
  • Candidates must reside in, or be willing to relocate to, the Superior/Duluth area.
