Description

ANursing Care Coordinator-Emergency Department supervises and performs professional nursing care, utilizing the nursing process at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation (ECMCC);

Supervises and directs the complete nursing service in the Emergency Department at ECMCC;

Plans, schedules, assigns and supervises the work activities of professional and non-professional nursing personnel in the area;

Evaluates and directs nursing activities using quality assurance standards;

Makes rounds and evaluates quality of care being rendered, condition of patient, and maintenance of the area;

Develops and implements the nursing plan of care, using the nursing process, for assigned patients;

Records and reports on patient's responses, and collaborates with appropriate members of the health team;

Identifies those components of the nursing plan of care which may be delegated to allied nursing personnel and provides necessary guidance;

Maintains professional competence through participation in continuing education and other appropriate learning experiences and completes a minimum of sixteen (16) hours clinical time in the Emergency Department providing direct nursing care per month;

Confers with physicians regarding care and treatment methods, and cooperates in providing services as requested;

Participates in the discharge and transfer of patients;

Supervises maintenance of records of nursing care and medical treatment rendered by nursing staff;

Requests supplies and equipment for the area served and monitors use of supplies and equipment in a fiscally responsible manner;

Plans and arranges for relief of staff and allots time for work, off-duty, meals and vacations;

Assists in training of student nurses assigned to section through on-the-job instruction and supervision of work;

Coordinates efforts of a multidisciplinary health care team;

Participates in in-service training as programmer or instructor;

Plans, assesses and evaluates the orientation of staff and equipment, emergency procedures and disaster plan;

Ensures that ECMCC and departmental policies are adhered to;

Counsels and disciplines employees and completes performance evaluations;

Participates in nursing and hospital committees;

Manages internal and external disasters effectively;

Completes incident reports and client concern forms as required;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must meet the following requirements:
Possession of a Bachelor's Degree* in Nursing and three (3) years of registered professional nursing experience, one (1) year of which was in a supervisory** or administrative** capacity in an Emergency Department.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of a license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of New York at time of appointment and maintenance throughout duration of appointment; and

Possession of Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification from an ECMCC approved provider at time of appointment and maintenance throughout duration of appointment; and

Possession of Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification from an ECMCC approved provider at time of appointment and maintenance throughout duration of appointment; and

Possession of Certified Emergency Nursing (CEN) Certification as administered by the Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN) within six (6) months of appointment and maintenance throughout duration of appointment.

Subjects of Examination:

SUBJECT OF EXAMINATION: The only subject of examination will be an evaluation of your training and experience. You are therefore, asked to include in your application a summary of all pertinent training and experience in sufficient detail so that your background may be evaluated against the duties of the position.

In your summary of training include all college course work, formal in-service training, and seminars you have attended. You must specify either the number of credits received or the number of contact hours and dates of attendance. Also include a copy of your professional license. Specify the date that your license was first issued.

In your summary of experience, you must specify the dates of your employment, the number of hours worked per week, your title, and the main duties for each. Be specific; vagueness and ambiguity will NOT be resolved in your favor. Candidates who submit incomplete applications or documentation may be disqualified.

BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION: Candidates may be subject to a thorough background investigation to determine suitability for appointment. VETERANS: Disabled and non-disabled veterans as defined in Section 85, New York State Civil Service Law, will have 5 and 2.5 points, respectively, added to their earned scores if successful in the examination. You should claim these credits when you file application but you have an option to waive them any time prior to appointment. If you have already used these credits you may not claim them again. HEALTH BENEFITS

Erie County offers comprehensive health insurance plans through the Labor-Management Healthcare Fund (LMHF), administered by Univera Healthcare. Eligible employees can choose from the following plans:
  • Enhanced Plan (POS 202)
  • Core Plan (POS 203)
  • Value Plan (POS 204)
  • Bronze High Deductible Plan (POS 8200)

Plan Details:
  • Value Plan (POS 204): This is the default plan for all new employees. These employees are required to contribute 15% of the plan's premium through pre-tax payroll deductions.
  • Enhanced Plan (POS 202) & Core Plan (POS 203): Employees opting for these plans must pay the difference in cost between their selected plan and the employer's contribution toward the Value Plan.
  • Bronze High Deductible Plan (POS 8200): Available to all employees regardless of hire date, the County covers 100% of the premium for this plan. It features a $2,000 individual / $4,000 family deductible and includes preventive services covered in full.

Health Insurance Waiver

Full-Time employees who waive participation in the County's health insurance plan and are not covered by another County health insurance plan receive, in lieu of the insurance, $500 per month for Family Coverage or $200 per month for Individual Coverage.

Dental Insurance:

Full-time employees represented by CSEA in Erie County receive dental coverage through the CSEA Employee Benefit Fund (EBF). The County contributes $22.13 per bi-weekly pay period for single coverage and $72.69 for family coverage.

Health Flexible Spending Account:

Erie County offers a Health Flexible Spending Account (FSA), allowing employees to set aside up to a maximum amount set by the IRS each year in pre-tax dollars for eligible medical, dental, and vision expenses.

PAID TIME OFF
  • Holidays: 12 paid holidays annually, including Juneteenth and Election Day.
  • Vacation Leave:
    1. Starts at 10 days per year, increases to up to 30 days with years of service.
    2. Can be accrued up to 25 days; unused vacation is payable upon separation.
    3. Eighty (80) hours of unused vacation time can be sold back annually, subject to minimum balance requirements.
  • Sick Leave:
