Full Job Description
The Nurse Program Coord - Cardiogenic Shock at VCU Health serves as a clinical leader and liaison in the management of patients with cardiogenic shock, with a focus on outreach, education, and quality improvement. This role supports the strategic growth of VCU Health's regional cardiogenic shock program by facilitating timely access and improving outcomes for patients suffering cardiogenic shock in Central Virginia.
Essential Job Statements
Program Management, Regional Outreach & Patient Recruitment; Build and maintain collaborative relationships with referring hospitals and providers across Central Virginia and beyond. Identify and coordinate the transfer of patients with cardiogenic shock to VCU Health for advanced therapies.
Provider Education and Clinical Support; Educated internal and external providers on the indications, management, and troubleshooting of temporary LVADs (eg Impella Devices). Develop and deliver educational sessions, simulation training, and clinical protocols to enhance provider and nursing competency.
Quality Improvement and Data Management; Collect and analyze clinical data related to cardiogenic shock cases, device utilization, registry data, and patient outcomes. Collaborate with the Cardiac ICU, Cardiac Surgery, and Advanced Heart Failure provider services to identify trends and implement quality improvement initiatives.
Program Development and Strategic Growth; Contribute to the strategic planning and build of VCU Health's Cardiogenic Shock Program footprint and outreach network. Assist in developing standardized care pathways for cardiogenic shock management.
Patient Population: Adults (18-64 years), Geriatrics (65 years and older)
Employment Qualifications
Education Required: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing
Education Preferred: Completion of a Master's Degree in Nursing. Certification in specialty area
Licensing/ Certification
Licensure Required: Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible or compact state, AHA BLS HCP certification or equivalent
Licensure Preferred: N/A
Minimum Qualifications
Years and Type of Required Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of nursing experience in a Coronary ICU, Cardiac Surgery ICU, and/or a Cardiac Catheterization laboratory
One (1) year of progressive leadership experience.
