Description

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) at SIU Student Health Services in Carbondale, Illinois, will be an integral member of a multidisciplinary team dedicated to providing comprehensive, patient-centered care to a diverse student population. Operating within a state-of-the-art ambulatory healthcare facility accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) since 1996, the PA will engage in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of acute and chronic medical conditions, emphasizing accessibility and continuity of care.

The anticipated salary for this position is $8,750.00 monthly ($105,000.00 annually). Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.

Examples of Duties

  1. Elicits and records accurate health histories, as indicated, including social, cultural, and family history.
  2. Performs physical assessment pertinent to the patient's needs up to and including a complete exam using standard medical office instruments.
  3. Obtains or orders appropriate laboratory and radiologic examinations and interprets the results.
  4. Develops and implements a treatment plan according to common medical practice, written treatment protocols, and/or with consultation with the supervising physician.
  5. Triages patients to appropriate specialists or to physicians if diagnosis or treatment plan is uncertain or complicated.
  6. Conducts screening for communicable diseases, provides follow-up assessment, documentation, evaluation, and reporting where applicable.
  7. Provides counseling for patients with emotional distress and refers patients to mental health professionals as indicated.
  8. Provides health teaching, with emphasis on the prevention of disease, and maintenance or restoration of good health.
  9. Responsible for maintenance and, when indicated or required, review of medical records.
  10. Participates in continuing education and in-service programs.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Possession of a valid certification/licensure as a current Nurse Practitioner in Medicine issued by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation. Graduate of a nationally accredited training program and have knowledge of physical assessment, anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and laboratory/imaging testing.
