Full Job Description
JOB SUMMARY:

The NURSE PRACTITIONER RN(EC), ONCOLOGY having a specialty-based focus functions in an expanded role demonstrating a high level of autonomy and expert skill to formulate clinical decisions and appropriately manage illnesses related to cancer and promote wellness; the principal responsibilities include: working with an interdisciplinary team to follow patients with most responsible physician (MRP) Radiation Oncologist, Medical Oncologist and/or Palliative Physician in utilizing and demonstrating a comprehensive theoretical knowledge base and advanced level of clinical competence in caring for patients involving collecting and interpreting data about the health of the patient, determining a medical diagnosis and treating complex responses of individuals and families to actual or potential problems; playing a leadership role and performing quality improvement and administrative responsibilities; participating in policy and procedure development; performing research activities; delivering, coordinating and participating in education and professional development activities/programs; performing activities to further develop and strengthen the profession; acting as a resource and serving as a consultant to individuals and groups within the professional community and other hospital/agencies; performing cross-functional and/or other duties consistent with the job classification, as assigned or directed.

The RN(EC) is a self directed advanced practice nurse prepared at the graduate level and who functions in an expanded role in a collaborative practice model. The RN(EC) demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge base in cancer treatment, exhibiting a high degree of clinical competence in caring for select patient groups with specialized health care needs. The RN(EC) scope of practice incorporates both the caring paradigm of nursing and parts of the therapeutic paradigm of medicine. Working in collaboration with a physician or group of physicians, the RN(EC) manages and provides comprehensive care for a select patient population in a collaborative interdisciplinary team environment.

In addition, the RN(EC) promotes professional education and advances knowledge through research and scholarly activities. All duties and responsibilities of the RN(EC) conform to professional practice agreement and specified delegated controlled acts from physician members of the medical staff at Windsor Regional Hospital

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 2 years current experience working as an acute care Nurse Practitioner - required
  • Experience in area of Oncology - preferred
  • Experience in nursing research methodology - required
  • Commitment to obtain and maintain certifications relevant to Oncology - required


EDUCATION/TRAINING EXPERIENCE:

  • Current Certificate license/registration RN(EC) extended class from the College of Nurses of Ontario - required
  • Current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support - required
  • CNA Certificate in Oncology - preferred
