Job SummaryWe are seeking a compassionate, qualified Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join our GI Medical Oncology team. The ideal candidate has exceptional internal medicine skills and oncology experience. They will work with a multidisciplinary team providing direct patient care services. Job Duties & Responsibilities- Promote and maintain high standards of patient care throughout the continuum of cancer diagnosis.
- Elicit detailed and accurate patient histories and perform through physical examinations.
- Order appropriate diagnostic imaging and tests to determine medical and post treatment diagnoses, patient conditions, treatment toxicities.
- Formulate appropriate treatment plans with critical thinking skills and high-level clinical judgement including prescribing appropriate medications.
- Chart patient progress maintaining detailed and accurate health records
- Participate in clinical research projects and understand the importance of documentation of toxicities and data collection.
- Communication among multi-disciplinary teams to support patient care.
- Collaborating, supporting and building strong relationships with supervising, back-up supervising physicians, APP colleagues, and team members.
- Participate in education of patients, family members, new staff, students and other learners.
- See scheduled and unscheduled patients.
- Attend program required meetings.
- Maintain up to date clinical and professional knowledge via approved CME.
- Protect patient confidentiality, maintain ethics and abide by North Carolina laws and Duke Health System policies.
- Maintain institutional requirements for compliance.

Job Eligibility RequirementsEducation - Nurse Practitioners:Work requires completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing.
- Physician Assistants:Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.
Certification- Physician Assistant certification
- Nurse Practitioner licensure and certification
- Licensed in the state of North Carolina
- BLS required
- ACLS preferred
License- Nurse Practitioners:Must have current or compact RN licensure & NP approval to practice in the state of North Carolina. BLS required. National certification as a NP required.
- Physician Assistants:Must be licensed in the state of NC, and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. BLS required.
- Both:DEA independent license with prescriptive authority.
Experience- 1+ years of APP experience preferred
Job Hours5 days per week with flexibility to meet clinic needs, 7 clinic sessions and 3 administration session per week.No weekends. No night or weekend call.
