Job Summary:

The Nurse Manager assumes primary leadership and management of defined clinical nursing areas to facilitate and deliver comprehensive quality nursing care and to manage the environment in which care is given. Major functions include: goals, planning, customer service/marketing, standards, certification and accreditation, administrative management, budget/cost containment, communication, and education. Ensures adherence to hospital or department and university policies and to nursing policies, procedures, standards, and practices. The Nurse Manager exemplifies the Upstate mission, vision, and values and acts in accordance with Upstate policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in Nursing or Masters degree in Nursing required. NYS Licensed/Registered (or eligible) RN required. Three years post-licensure acute care RN experience (preferably in specialty area) to include leadership experience required. Excellent written/oral communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills required. CPR-BLS certification required by the time of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree preferred. Nursing Leadership certification upon appointment or obtained within three years of appointment is preferred. Other specialty-based certifications for nursing leadership (i.e., CCRN, CEN) are also encouraged and supported.
