Job Overview

Fairview is looking for a Nurse Manager on the Med/Surg Unit at our Lakes Medical Center in Wyoming, MN.

Schedule: This role is a 1.0 FTE (80 hours every 2 weeks). Primarily Monday - Friday, typical business hours, occasional evenings & weekends.

About this Unit:
The Lakes Medical/Surgical Unit is a 32-bed unit which delivers care to primarily adults & occasionally adolescents. Disease processes include the areas of general surgery, orthopedics, neurology, respiratory, endocrine, hematology, renal, cardiac, gastroenterology, podiatry, and urology. Patients are admitted through the Emergency Department, Surgical Services or directly from in and out of system clinics and hospitals. Patient care is multidisciplinary and includes Nursing, Hospitalists, Social Work, Discharge Planning, Spiritual Care, Infection Prevention, Pharmacy, Palliative Care, Laboratory, Nutrition, Diagnostics, Respiratory, and Rehabilitation.

Responsibilities:

The Nursing Manager manages nursing practice and patient care operations in collaboration with and accountable to the Nursing Director, This includes: nursing practice, quality and safety, regulatory compliance, finance and other operational accountabilities.
  • Manages day-to-day operations of assigned area(s) to ensure support of the mission, vision, values and goals of the organization.
  • Plans, manages, coordinates and evaluates patient care activities including staffing, resource management, quality and safety, regulatory compliance, and financial management.
  • Manages equipment inventory and supply management within operational budget.
  • Accountable for capacity management to promote patient flow.
  • Develops, implements, monitors and evaluates the quality improvement initiatives.
  • Responsible for human resources management to achieve quality service and positive employee relations.
  • Ensures compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Advocates for patient, family and staff needs.
  • Drive improvement activities that promote patient centered care and positive customer experience.
  • In partnership the Nursing Practice and Education team assure that evidence based/best practice clinical care is being delivered.
  • Ensures staff compliance in areas of job requirements, education and clinical competency.
  • Works with Nurse Director to establish goals and objectives.
  • Promotes a culture of high employee engagement, professional development, nursing education and research.
  • Partners with interprofessional team members across the continuum of care to achieve organizational outcomes.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelors Degree in Nursing *If Bachelor's degree is not in nursing must have a Master's degree in nursing
  • 3 years nursing experience, at least two of which is in a formal or informal (charge, lead, preceptor) leadership role
  • MN Registered Nurse (RN) License or ability to obtain Minnesota nursing license Upon Hire
  • Basic Life Support (American Heart Assoc or Red Cross)

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master of Science Nursing
  • ANCC or AONL Certification
  • Formal leadership experience (PCS, Manager, Director)
