This position will work with the Director of Nursing to assist with the supervision, oversight and orientation of nursing services along three large geographic areas: Torrington, Danbury and Waterbury.

DISCOVER THE OPPORTUNITY TO - Assess compliance with infection prevention regulations and guidelines established by state and federal agencies such as OSHA, CDC, CT DPH and the Joint Commission;
- Support, coordinate, and evaluate WCMHN's Infection Prevention and Control Program;
- Be responsible for Transmission-based precaution practices across all three geographic areas for WCMHN;
- Coordinate flu vaccine program, monitor infections for WCMHN;
- Monitor CDC, WHO, DPH, DMHAS facilities outbreaks;
- Provide guidance to Western programs on isolation precautions, communicable disease management, outbreak response, exposure response, exposure management, adherence to regulatory standards and DMHAS protocols;
- Oversee medical equipment to ensure medical equipment is tested annually and is working properly;
- Maintain, review and update WCMHN's Infection Control policies, procedures and plan;
- Plan, develop and implement training programs for Western related to nursing practices;
- Provide orientation and onboarding of new nursing staff to WCMHN;
- In collaboration with the Director of Nursing develop, implement and maintain a current Nursing Orientation Manual;
- Work with nursing staff to ensure completion of documentation eg., Health Screens, Medication Reconciliation, Nutritional Screen, Competency to self-administer medication, recovery plans; and
- Review nursing policies and procedures to ensure new RN/LPN are knowledgeable of RN policies and procedures.
PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK) In the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services this class is accountable for applying professional nursing knowledge in the enforcement, inspection, licensure, consultation and implementation or assessment of the nursing service component of health care programs and facilities.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES - Implements, coordinates, and evaluates activities of assigned programs or health care services;
- Maintains active liaison with and serves as nursing consultant to other sections, divisions, health care providers and public;
- Assesses safety and quality of client care provided;
- Assesses compliance of health insurance companies with various state statutes, regulations and guidelines;
- Coordinates and supervises a program of clinical data collection as it relates to specific state and federal legislation;
- Develops, implements and evaluates instruments used in collection of clinical information;
- Assesses and evaluates medical and psychiatric information obtained through clinical screening procedure;
- Evaluates discharge planning activities for clients requiring transfers from nursing facilities;
- Plans for utilization of community and hospital resources required by these clients;
- Reviews and implements budget for Clinical Systems Analysis Unit of department;
- Plans, develops and implements training programs for department and other state agency staff;
- May inspect and evaluate health care and psychiatric facilities for compliance with state and federal regulations including licensure and certification laws;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE Four (4) years of experience as a Registered Nurse in a position involving supervision, consultation, education or administration.
