Introduction

The Department of Corrections is focused on public safety through the custody and supervision of those in our care. The Division of Adult Institution is recruiting to fill a Nurse Clinician 4 position. This position is based out of Columbia Correctional Institution (Portage, WI, Columbia County)

Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Nursing Supervisor, this position functions independently in an expanded clinical role giving expert direct and indirect nursing care to patients who have complex care needs. Demonstrates training in Nursing Practice and the Nursing process. Actively participates as a member of the multidisciplinary team in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care. Consults with the multi-disciplinary team within the institution, other DOC institutions and the community on planning and evaluating care for patients with multiple medical and psychiatric needs. Identifies, develops and implements plans to meet the learning needs of Persons In Our Care (PIOC) patients, staff, students, and community agencies related to medical care and re-entry of offenders. Participates in collaborative program planning to meet the health needs of offenders at the institution and in the community when they are due to be discharged. Initiates and participates in research and quality improvement activities.

Salary Information

This position is in pay schedule/range 11-01 with an annual salary of $99299-$113339, plus excellent benefits. Pay on appointment for current state employees may vary according to the applicable pay transaction provisions of the State Compensation Plan, Wisconsin Administrative Code, and statutes. A twelve-month probationary period is required.

Job Details

The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.

As public safety employees, remote work is not an option for these positions.

Qualifications

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Licensed to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Wisconsin.
  2. M ust be certified in basic CPR/AED and maintain recertification per licensure.

AND Minimally qualified applicants will have all the following experience:

  • Collaborating with other supervisors regarding general unit management.
  • Identifying and planning to meet learning needs of complex care/disease patients and other nursing staff related to delivering high quality nursing care.
  • Functioning as a nursing team lead (e.g. charge nurse) in an ambulatory setting.
