Job SummaryDominion Energy's Nuclear Fleet Performance Improvement Team is actively looking to hire a Nuclear Fleet Performance Improvement Consultant - Engineering. This single position can be filled at any of the following locations: Glen Allen, VA; Jenkinsville, SC, Mineral, VA; Surry, VA; or Waterford, CT.
The engineering teams located at each of Dominion Energy's four nuclear power stations play an essential role in the site's safe and reliable operations. Daily, the engineering teams are tasked with a myriad of complex, time-sensitive requests from other site teams to include Operations and Maintenance, and responding to those needs with timely, high-quality solutions can be challenging.
With an eye towards the continuous improvement of site reliability and efficiency, the Nuclear Fleet Performance Improvement Consultant - Engineering ("Consultant") will be responsible for identifying opportunities for improvement by systematically reviewing and evaluating department performance at each site. This evaluation and analysis will include individual leader performance. In turn, the Consultant will support the development and implementation of process and policy changes that will positively impact performance outcomes. Further, the Consultant will influence value-added changes through coaching and training of engineering team members.
More specifically, the Consultant will:
- Visit each power station on a frequent basis
- Participate in department self-evaluation meetings
- Conduct performance deep dives
- Observe department performance in both plant operations and training
- Collect, review and analyze performance related data
- Formulate recommendations to better integrate site operations with the engineering department's processes, procedures, protocols, policies and practices
- Build and implement project plans aligned with specific operational changes
- Coach and consult engineering leaders
- Maintain frequent communication with the Peer Group, station leaders, and corporate executives to establish and influence fleet-wide actions and priorities.
In all aspects of their role, the Nuclear Fleet Performance Improvement Consultant - Engineering will be expected to establish and nurture trusted and productive relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders. Essential to these productive relationships with be the delivery of clear and compelling communications related to standards of excellence, departmental goals, and opportunities for individual professional growth.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & ExperienceThe knowledge, skills, abilities and experiences that are required for entry into this job include the following:
- Seven (7) or more years of work experience directly related to engineering activities at a nuclear power station (with a preferred Bachelor's degree in Engineering)
- In lieu of the preferred Bachelor's degree in Engineering, a candidate may substitute an engineering related Associate's degree and nine (9) or more years of work experience directly related to engineering activities at a nuclear power station
- In lieu of the preferred Bachelor's degree in Engineering, a candidate may substitute a High School diploma/GED and eleven (11) or more years of work experience directly related to engineering activities at a nuclear power station
- Demonstrated expertise with nuclear industry processes and procedures with a focus on engineering-related functions
- Proven ability to lead from a position of support and influence
- Proven ability to partner effectively with all levels of the organization
- Prior experience working with Peer Group Governance structure.
- Strong organizational and project management skills
- Effective verbal, presentation and writing skills
- Demonstrated success in influence changes and process improvements
- Proven ability to review, analyze and compile complex technical information and develop recommendations for management.
Preferred candidates for the Consultant role will also possess:
- INPO Evaluator experience
- Direct experience in executing long-term quality improvement projects
- Prior nuclear work experience aligned with a fleetwide scope vs just individual power station
Education RequirementsDegree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education:Bachelor
