Job DescriptionResponsibilitiesThe Operations Specialist will coordinate and complete critical support activities at the Radioactive Waste Management Complex (RWMC). As an integral part of our RWMC team, you will collaborate with external and internal partners to attain desired results and sustain operations reporting to the Radioactive Waste Program Operations Manager
Key Responsibilities- Support and coordinate operations and maintenance at Nuclear or High Hazard (HH) facilities to maintain a condition and configuration to accept and support programs and projects.
- Access buildings, conduct walk-downs, inspections, and/or monitoring rounds to verify facility readiness to conduct or continue operations.
- Perform system lineups in accordance with approved procedures and checklists to ensure operability.
- Exercise independent judgment within level of responsibility. Apply knowledge and training to ensure all activities are conducted safely and consistently in compliance with applicable requirements.
- The candidate's primary responsibility will be the verification and receipt of Low-Level and Mixed Low-Level Waste shipments.
- As the responsible field person, facilitate the safe and compliant off-loading of waste shipments.
- Process shipment paperwork, review of departmental procedures and quality control of shipment paperwork.
- Perform surveillances and inspections.
- Perform administrative functions related to support the Area 5 Document Safety Analysis including reading, training, exams, and implementation.
- This position requires qualification to the Area 5 Low-Level Waste Specialist position and as a Real Time Radiography Operator.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
- Attend and participate in routine meetings to include presentation of relatable safety topics.
- Conduct assessments; document results and develop reports.
- Support Department of Energy (DOE)/NNSA reviews and assessments.
- Maintain company processes/programs and implementing procedures.
- Support Emergency Preparedness drills and exercises in a variety of project roles.
- Plans, guides, or prepares administrative and technical documents as required for maintenance, operations, or testing.
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in field related to the position plus at least 2 years of relevant professional experience.
- Ability to read and follow detailed instructions utilizing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Conduct in-service inspections (ISIs) and system surveillances.
- Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills. Computer skills in MS Word, Excel, and MS Outlook are desired.
- Experience in waste management programs and/or radioactive waste management is beneficial.
- Must be proficient with a computer and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work outside in cold temperatures during the winter and extreme heat in the summer.
- Must have excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Have the ability to obtain a Q-Clearance
- The primary work location will be at the Nevada National Security Site (located 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada).
- Work schedule will be 4/10s Monday through Thursday (subject to change).
- Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
Annual salary range for this position is:
$80,953.60 - $121,430.40.Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.
