Requisition ID: 95777

As a New RNG Site Transition and AI Integration Engineer within the Power Generation Division, supporting the Renewable Operations Integration team, you will play a critical role in advancing the digital integration, operational readiness, and long-term performance of NextEra Energy's Renewable Natural Gas and Landfill Gas to Energy assets.

This role is focused on strengthening the data, reporting, automation, and AI-enabled capabilities that support RNG plant operations, maintenance strategy, commissioning handoff, asset onboarding, and fleet reliability. The position combines deep data systems integration with applied analytics, Python-based automation, and AI-driven tools to improve operational visibility, reduce manual workflows, and support better decision-making across RNG facilities.
You will partner closely with Operations Managers, Lead Project Managers, Engineering & Construction, IT, Data & Analytics, contractors, vendors, and field teams to support the transition of RNG assets from construction and commissioning into fully integrated steady-state operations. This includes improving Maximo asset structures, SCADA/EWIS integrations, Ignition and Grafana dashboards, operational KPIs, maintenance data quality, and predictive analytics use cases.

This position offers a unique opportunity to help shape the digital foundation for RNG operations while directly supporting plant reliability, production performance, operational readiness, and continuous improvement across a growing renewable gas fleet.

Key Responsibilities
  • RNG Data Systems & Asset Integration
  • Lead and support the development, validation, and ongoing management of Maximo hierarchies, asset structures, equipment records, preventive maintenance data, and work management information for RNG and LFGTE facilities.
  • Support the onboarding of new and existing RNG assets into enterprise systems, ensuring data alignment across Maximo, SCADA, EWIS, Ignition, Grafana, reporting platforms, and operational dashboards.
  • Partner with site teams and project stakeholders to ensure asset data, maintenance strategies, spare parts information, and system handoff requirements are established prior to startup and steady-state operations.
  • Improve data quality, consistency, and traceability across RNG plant systems, including compressors, gas treatment systems, flares, gas collection systems, balance-of-plant equipment, and supporting infrastructure.

SCADA, EWIS & Dashboard Integration
  • Support validation and stakeholder adoption of Ignition and Grafana dashboards used for RNG operational visibility, performance monitoring, equipment health, downtime analysis, and maintenance planning.
  • Collaborate with SCADA, IT, and operations teams to streamline SCADA and EWIS integration timelines for RNG facilities.
  • Help identify and resolve gaps between project delivery, commissioning data, and long-term operational reporting requirements.
  • Develop and enhance dashboards, reports, and KPIs that improve visibility into gas yield, gas quality, uptime, equipment performance, downtime drivers, and operational readiness.

Python Automation & Data Engineering
  • Design, develop, and maintain Python-based automation tools to improve RNG data validation, onboarding workflows, reporting processes, system checks, and exception management.
  • Build scripts and data pipelines that reduce manual effort and improve consistency in asset onboarding, maintenance data review, SCADA tag validation, and operational reporting.
  • Support ETL processes, API integrations, data modeling, and analytics frameworks that connect field data, enterprise systems, and fleet-level reporting tools.
  • Automate recurring data quality checks for RNG assets, including equipment records, work order data, PM compliance, downtime events, and dashboard inputs.

AI, Analytics & Operational Optimization
  • Apply AI and machine learning techniques to support predictive maintenance, anomaly detection, system diagnostics, downtime reduction, and plant performance optimization across RNG and LFGTE assets.
  • Analyze plant performance, maintenance, downtime, and SCADA data to identify trends, chronic issues, and improvement opportunities.
  • Support development of AI-enabled tools that help field teams, operations managers, and engineering stakeholders identify equipment risks, data anomalies, and operational inefficiencies.
  • Translate operational challenges into practical analytics and automation use cases that improve reliability, maintainability, and production performance.

Operational Readiness & Project Support
  • Support the transition of RNG facilities from construction and commissioning into steady-state operations by ensuring digital systems, asset data, reporting tools, and maintenance structures are ready for handoff.
  • Collaborate with project teams, contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders to support commissioning, startup, performance validation, and operational acceptance activities.
  • Assist with standardizing onboarding processes, data templates, documentation, and system readiness checklists for future RNG projects.
  • Provide technical support for strategic PGD projects involving RNG data systems, field technology deployment, dashboard development, and operational integration.

Continuous Improvement & Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with operations, maintenance, engineering, IT, and analytics teams to identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Support fleet-wide initiatives focused on standardization, reliability improvement, reporting consistency, and operational efficiency.
  • Develop documentation, training materials, and process guides to support long-term business continuity and scalable RNG operations.
  • Serve as a technical liaison between field operations, project teams, and enterprise data system owners.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or related technical field required; master's degree preferred.
  • 4+ years of experience in data systems engineering, system integration, IT project management, operations technology, or power generation support.
  • Experience supporting Renewable Natural Gas, Landfill Gas to Energy, power generation, industrial gas processing, utilities, or similar process facilities strongly preferred.
  • Strong Python programming skills with experience in automation, data processing, scripting, analytics, and workflow optimization.
  • Experience with Maximo or other CMMS platforms, including asset hierarchy development, work management data, preventive maintenance structures, and maintenance reporting.

  • Familiarity with RNG or LFGTE equipment and systems, including compressors, gas treatment systems, flares, gas collection systems, analyzers, and balance-of-plant equipment.
  • Experience developing or supporting AI/ML models for predictive analytics, anomaly detection, maintenance optimization, or operational diagnostics.
  • Familiarity with data engineering concepts, including ETL pipelines, APIs, data validation, data modeling, and cloud-based analytics platforms.
Proven ability to manage complex technical initiatives across operations, engineering, IT, contractors, and field teams.
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to data quality, system accuracy, and operational detail.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to translate business and field needs into scalable technical solutions.
  • Experience supporting commissioning, startup, operational readiness, or asset transition activities preferred.
  • Energy sector, renewable fuels, or digital transformation experience highly desirable.

Key Attributes for Success
  • Strong understanding of how data systems support safe, reliable, and efficient RNG operations.
  • Ability to connect field operations needs with scalable enterprise data solutions.
  • Ownership mindset with the ability to drive issues from identification through resolution.
  • Strong technical curiosity and practical problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work across operations, maintenance, engineering, IT, analytics, vendors, and contractors.
