The Neurosurgeon is prepared by education to function independently to admit, evaluate, diagnose, and provide consultation, nonoperative, and pre-, intra, and postoperative care to adult patients presenting with injuries or disorders of the central, peripheral, and autonomic nervous systems, including their supporting structures and vascular supply. The surgeon complies with all the policies and procedures of the Department of Surgery and of the facility. He/She is directly accountable to the Chief Medical Officer.
Performance Expectations:
His/her role includes but is not limited to the following:
- Rounding on neurosurgical service patients daily; completing documentation of assessment, following established protocols to assure expected patient outcomes.
- Completing timely, thorough, efficient hand off of patient information to other physicians as needed
- Responding to Emergency Department activation within the prescribed 30 minutes for ALPHA designation and 60 minutes for BRAVO designation, or as required by state trauma regulations
- Presenting for their assigned shift in a timely manner
- Submitting charges of daily work on the Charge tab within patient's chart in EPIC
- Comply with quality measures established within the department
- Complete annual educational offering to staff
- Complete annual educational CME of trauma related topics
- Comply with 75% attendance expectation for quarterly trauma council meetings
Qualifications:
Education/Skills
Graduate of a medical school approved by American Medical Association is required. Residency training in an ACGME or AOA certified neurological surgery training program required. Board certification/eligibility in Neurological Surgery required.
Work Experience:
Completion of ACGME or AOA accredited residency in neurological surgery with board eligibility required.
Certification/Licensure - DUE UPON HIRE
- Current License to practice in the State of Mississippi
- Eligible for Forrest General Hospital Malpractice Insurance
- Eligible for Board certification in Neurological Surgery
- Basic Life Support or Advanced Life Support certification
Mental Demands:
Maximum mental demands dealing with major trauma, the most sick neurosurgical and trauma patients.
