Job Title: Network Technician- Wired and Wireless
Location: Teacher Administration Center, 3215 Cuming Street, Omaha NE
Reports To: IMS Technical Support Coordinator
Work Schedule/FLSA Status: 261-day 12-month / Salaried exempt
Salary Schedule: Technician 4-S26/91D, Starting salary: $81,579.08
Salary credit may be awarded for applicable experience.
Position Purpose: This position will be responsible for wired and wireless installations and will also assist with network, voice, and video configurations and installations.
Essential Performance Responsibilities - Configure Cisco switches.
- Install Catalyst switches.
- Troubleshoot all switch issues.
- Install VOIP phones in buildings.
- Maintain and troubleshoot phone issues.
- Install wireless technologies as directed.
- Assist building technicians with wireless installations and train as appropriate.
- Perform high-density wireless surveys both pre- and post-deployment.
- Ensure network addresses are assigned properly.
- Troubleshoot cable and/or fiber issues.
- Monitor wireless work tickets and ensure appropriate resolution is provided.
- Interface with technology vendors as appropriate.
- Escalate network problems to the Network Analyst-Wired and Wireless, and as appropriate to IMS management.
- Provide input and knowledge as needed to others on the Network Services team.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - High school diploma or GED required.
- Associate's degree in computer technology, preferred.
- Minimum of three years' experience in telecommunications/networking-related industry, preferred.
- Basic knowledge of Cisco Catalyst switches.
- Basic WAN/LAN experience level.
- Basic knowledge of PRTG Network Monitoring, Wireshark, and VoIP.
- Experience with wireless networking equipment.
- Experience with WIFI.
- Experience with fiber optic and copper cabling/wiring installation techniques and practices.
- Understanding of various types of operating systems and multimedia technologies.
- Understanding of voice services.
- Ability to do basic Cisco switch configuration.
- Ability to implement wireless solutions.
- Ability to use built tools to troubleshoot wireless issues.
- Ability to study, document, and prepare system diagrams regarding present-day networking workflow and procedures.
- Ability to plan, organize, problem-solve, and think abstractly/conceptually.
- Ability to monitor and maintain network equipment and data circuits.
- Ability to understand technical manuals and procedural documentation, as well as keep documentation up to date.
- Ability to work through difficult issues and maintain a great, positive attitude when communicating with others.
- Ability to work hours outside of the normal schedule with little or no advance notification.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Skills pertinent to positive human relationships and the ability to work effectively with staff members in a multicultural urban setting.
- License in good standing and able to travel (drive) throughout the District.
Additional Duties Performs other related tasks as assigned by supervisor and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
Equipment: This position may require the ability to use basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and a fax machine. Must always comply with OPS's guidelines for equipment use.
Travel: Regular travel within the District will be required.

- Work in school building and central office environments.
Interrelations: - Contact with district personnel, customers, and vendors.
- Will work under the direct supervision of the department supervisor to complete day-to-day tasks.

- Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly, professional manner and provide quick, responsive customer service.
Employee Punctuality and Appearance - For schools to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours on each designated workday, unless the employee has approved leave.
- Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee's supervisor or building administrator.

Terms of Employment This position is considered a full-time, exempt, classified position. The terms of your employment will be governed by applicable state laws regulating employment in a Nebraska public school and Board of Education policies, as those laws and policies may change from time to time. If your position is represented by a collective bargaining representative, then your employment will also be governed by a negotiated agreement between OPS and that collective bargaining representative.
