Network Edge Engineer 2Comm Tech (Core)

The Network Edge Specialist reports to the manager and/or designate and operates within a complex multi-site environment, providing and maintaining complex data communications infrastructure for the health authorities. The Network Edge Specialist participates in the planning and recommending hardware and software upgrades, applying corrective maintenance to ensure an updated, secure, reliable, and efficient network edge infrastructure. The role utilizes expert knowledge of network security concepts and best practices, and networking principles, protocols, and technologies, to perform operational maintenance, support, and troubleshooting duties. The Network Edge Specialist utilizes and maintains current knowledge of network hardware components such as routers, switches, firewalls, access points, and associated configurations and with network cabling, wiring standards, and physical network setup.
What you'll do - Conduct needs analysis, assess user needs/requirements, recommend hardware, specify cabling needs, map installation requirements, provide implementation cost estimates, and coordinate project information with other teams.
- Complete user impact assessments, in alignment with established change management processes and communicate any potential impacts for operational network changes.
- Develop accurate and detailed network documentation, including network diagrams, configurations, and troubleshooting steps. Communicate technical concepts to non-technical users.
- Document network incidents, resolutions, and system changes. Enter data into a database to track cabling details and produce electrical schematic diagrams for record-keeping purposes.
- Update documentation and report related to hardware and cabling installations.
- Prepare work plans for implementation of network hardware or cable plant upgrades or replacements.
- Assess product design and costs, evaluates current network, prepare detailed implementation plans and timeframe, organize vendor demonstrations, and assist in producing and evaluating requests for proposals. Coordinate with external parties for cabling and other external supported networking systems.
- Monitor network health, performance, and security. Configure and manage network devices using network management software. Analyse network traffic and identify performance bottlenecks.
- Monitor network reports, identify and resolves hardware failures, high utilization levels, and unauthorized access to ensure efficient operation of data networks. Take immediate action to resolve technical incidents and problems.
- Diagnose and resolve network issues. Identify and resolve network issues. Troubleshoot network connectivity, performance, and security problems.
- Install, configure, test and upgrade network hardware components, including routers, switches, and network interface cards (NICs). Install, configure, and testscommunication, network operating systems and related network software.
- Maintain network links, reconfigure equipment programming, assess system redundancies, and designs and programs as required.
- Assign work tasks for complex data network projects and monitor progress to ensure project deliverables are met.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies and standards for installations, hardware maintenance, and user security access. Ensure proper installation and maintenance of equipment, and monitor control protocols.
- Perform Network Edge Analyst duties and other related duties as assigned.
What you bring Qualifications
- Graduation from a recognized degree or diploma program in Computer Science, three years' recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the historic and ongoing impacts of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples in social and health contexts, including supported by significant knowledge of Indigenous-specific mandates, including clear understanding of and commitment to eradicate Indigenous-specific racism and discrimination and embed Indigenous Cultural Safety and Humility.
- Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of the historic and ongoing impacts of settler colonialism and systemic racism on Indigenous Peoples within social and health contexts. This includes understanding how these factors contribute to current health disparities and barriers to care. Show a clear commitment to identifying, challenging, and eradicating Indigenous-specific racism and all forms of discrimination impacting equity-deserving groups within health care settings. This involves familiarity and understanding Indigenous Cultural Safety and Humility recognizing personal biases, institutional barriers, engaging in anti-racism education and training and advocating for systemic change.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments within Comm Tech (Core) contexts found in the foundational documents including Truth & Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Calls for Justice (2019), the Declaration Act Action Plan and Remembering Keegan: A First Nations Case Study - BC Human Rights Code, BC Anti-racism Act and how they intersect across the health care system.

- Brings an understanding of the Indigenous specific racism and the broader systemic racism that exists in the colonial health care structure, and has demonstrated initiatives in breaking down barriers and ensuring a safe environment ensuring a sense of belonging to all and informed by Indigenous Cultural Safety.
- Awareness of social, economic, political and historical realities of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples and familiarity with addressing Indigenous-specific anti-racism, anti-racism and Indigenous Cultural Safety and foundational documents and legislative commitments (the Declaration Act, the Declaration Action Plan, TRC, IPS, Remembering Keegan, etc.).
