Responsibilities

  • Respond to incidents assigned to the Network Edge team by diagnosing problems and resolving them.
  • Handle service requests related to the Network Edge by configuring devices and installing software updates.
  • Conduct operational maintenance and support of the network edge infrastructure, monitoring performance and conducting routine tasks.
  • Assist in planning and recommending specifications for hardware and software upgrades and participate in their implementation.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of network configurations and procedures for troubleshooting.
  • Provide technical support to users experiencing network issues, guiding them through troubleshooting steps.
  • Collaborate on data network projects, assessing products, organizing vendor demonstrations, and assisting in RFP evaluations.

Network Edge Engineer 1

The Network Edge Analyst reports to the manager and/or designate and operates within a complex multi-site environment, providing technical support to facilitate reliable and efficient network performance and network connectivity for the health authorities. The role installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and complies with PHSA policies and standards for installations, hardware maintenance, other applicable equipment, and user security access, enabling a secure network infrastructure, in adherence with standards and security protocols. The role responds to incidents, service requests, and user or network problems assigned to the Network Edge team by investigating, diagnosing, and remediating any issues within the supported network.

The Network Edge Analyst requires considerable knowledge of the computing environment and maintains current technical knowledge and standards. The role contributes to the maintenance of a robust and reliable data communications infrastructure, provides technical advice as required, and collaborates with other team members, network administrators, and IT support staff to address network issues, maintain standard operations and to convey technical information and updates to team members and other vested parties.

What you'll do
  • Respond to incidents assigned to the Network Edge team, analyze and diagnose problems, and work towards timely resolution. Troubleshoot network connectivity, identify hardware or software failures, and implement corrective action.
  • Respond to service requests/user problems related to the Network Edge infrastructure. Configure network devices, set up user accounts, install software updates, and address user access or connectivity issues.
  • Assist in the operational maintenance and support of the network edge infrastructure. Monitor network performance, conduct routine maintenance tasks, and monitor to ensure network equipment and software are up to date.
  • Assist in planning, developing, and recommending specifications for hardware and software upgrades and participate in the implementation of upgrades as required. Assist in the procurement process by identifying user/client requirements, obtaining quotes from pre-approved vendors and send quoted for user/client approval/purchase. Assist with the evaluation of new technologies by performing tests in predetermined testing environment and recording results as per test plan.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of network configurations, diagrams, and procedures. Update network diagrams, record changes made to the network infrastructure, and create documentation for troubleshooting or operational purposes.
  • Provide technical support to users experiencing network-related issues. Assist users with connectivity problems, address network security concerns, and guide users through basic network troubleshooting steps.
  • Work on data network projects as required. Meet with vendors, assess product design and costs, evaluate current network, plan implementation and timeframe, organize vendor demonstrations, and assist in producing and evaluating requests for proposals.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Grade 12, graduation from a recognized two-year computer system technology diploma program, plus three years' recent related experience, or graduation from a recognized degree in Computer Science plus two years of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the historic and ongoing impacts of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples in social and health contexts, including supported by significant knowledge of Indigenous-specific mandates, including clear understanding of and commitment to eradicate Indigenous-specific racism and discrimination and embed Indigenous Cultural Safety and Humility.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of the historic and ongoing impacts of settler colonialism and systemic racism on Indigenous Peoples within social and health contexts. This includes understanding how these factors contribute to current health disparities and barriers to care. Show a clear commitment to identifying, challenging, and eradicating Indigenous-specific racism and all forms of discrimination impacting equity-deserving groups within health care settings. This involves familiarity and understanding Indigenous Cultural Safety and Humility recognizing personal biases, institutional barriers, engaging in anti-racism education and training and advocating for systemic change.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments within Provincial Digital Health contexts found in the foundational documents including Truth & Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Calls for Justice (2019), the Declaration Act Action Plan and Remembering Keegan: A First Nations Case Study - BC Human Rights Code, BC Anti-racism Act and how they intersect across the health care system.

  • Brings an understanding of the Indigenous specific racism and the broader systemic racism that exists in the colonial health care structure, and has demonstrated initiatives in breaking down barriers and ensuring a safe environment ensuring a sense of belonging to all and informed by Indigenous Cultural Safety.
  • Awareness of social, economic, political and historical realities of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples and familiarity with addressing Indigenous-specific anti-racism, anti-racism and Indigenous Cultural Safety and foundational documents and legislative commitments (the Declaration Act, the Declaration Action Plan, TRC, IPS, Remembering Keegan, etc.).
