Full Job Description
We are seeking a Tactical Networks Fleet Readiness and Sustainment (FRS) Network Automation Engineer who will provide direct engineering support to the Transport Sustainment Engineering Team, focusing on the sustainment, troubleshooting, modernization, and upgrade of fielded shipboard networks. The engineer will participate in resolving complex shipboard network issues, implementing configuration updates, improving security posture, and supporting lifecycle sustainment of deployed systems.

Duties:
  • Provide engineering sustainment support for fielded shipboard networks, including troubleshooting, maintenance, configuration updates, and optimization.
  • Lead and assist with upgrades to network baselines, ensuring compatibility, compliance, and reliability across multiple deployed configurations.
  • Implement and sustain Cisco ISE/NAC solutions including 802.1X, MAB, AAA, RADIUS, TACACS+, TrustSec policies, C3PL, licensing, and endpoint profiling.
  • Evaluate, mitigate, and implement STIGs on network appliances and shipboard systems to improve cybersecurity posture.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance automation tooling for network sustainment, including Ansible playbooks, Powershell scripts, and other automation workflows.
  • Troubleshoot issues across various Cisco platforms such as routers, switches, firewalls, wireless infrastructure, AnyConnect, and Secure Client within CANES and related environments.
  • Support engineering analysis and resolution of baseline-specific issues affecting shipboard network deployments.
  • Process Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and work within Agile and DevOps practices to support iterative improvements to deployed transport systems. Participate in change management processes, ensuring proper documentation, review, and approval workflows for sustainment updates and configuration changes.
  • Contribute to development and maintenance of configuration documentation, sustainment procedures, technical guides, and engineering artifacts.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams and PMWs to ensure alignment and smooth execution of sustainment and upgrade activities.

Required Education:
  • Bachelor's level degree in an engineering discipline

Required Experience:
  • 3+ years professional experience in network or systems engineering, preferably with direct support to DoD or Navy programs.
  • Hands-on experience with Cisco ISE or NAC technologies, including authentication, authorization, profiling, TrustSec, and policy enforcement.
  • Strong understanding of network security fundamentals and ability to apply and validate STIGs.
  • Experience developing automation artifacts such as Ansible playbooks, Powershell scripts, or similar tools.
  • Ability to troubleshoot across multiple baselines, configurations, and shipboard network deployments within CANES or similar Navy environments.
  • Familiarity with Agile processes, ECR workflows, DevOps concepts, and change management practices.
  • Experience supporting Cisco routers, switches, firewalls, wireless networks, ACL development, and multi-vendor troubleshooting.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced operational sustainment environment.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience working with NAVWAR, NIWC Pacific, and PEO C4I Program Offices.
  • Experience with Navy initiatives and PMW 160 systems (e.g., Consolidated Afloat Network Enterprise Systems (CANES), Platform Application Services (PAS), Agile Core Services (ACS), Automated Digital Network System (ADNS))
  • CCNA certification
  • Security+ certification
  • Active TS/SCI

Compensation at Precise Systems is determined by various factors, including education, experience, skills, competencies, and contract-specific requirements. The salary range for this position is $125,000.00-$145,000.00 (annualized USD). This range represents the standard pay for this role and is just one component of Precise Systems' total compensation package.
