The Network Associate Director of 6-12 Literacy serves as an instructional and curricular leader for the network, creating and carrying out a vision for a rigorous secondary literacy education that supports the larger vision of Prospect 2030, that 100% of students are college ready and graduate with an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma.
The AD of 6-12 Literacy will manage the implementation of High Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM) and network-wide literacy assessments across middle and high school. The AD will ensure alignment between ELA programs in grades 6 through 10 and the requirements of the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) and IB Diploma Programme (DP) Language and Literature courses, so that students are prepared for the rigors of IB coursework from the time they enter secondary school.
The Network Associate Director of 6-12 Literacy is also responsible for outcomes across secondary classrooms and intervention systems. In this role, the AD sets priorities, upholds the vertical alignment of coursework and curriculum, assessments, intervention, and content-specific pedagogy across grades 6-12. They will oversee middle school Reading Enrichment and Reading Intervention support blocks, managing the implementation of HD Word and close reading intervention programs across campuses. They will manage ROAR and HD Word progress monitoring cycles, use data to drive intervention placement and exit decisions, and support directors in building sustainable intervention systems at the campus level. They will monitor and respond to data from across our programs in grades 6-12 to ensure students thrive.
The AD will support the continued development of our Windsor Terrace K-8 school, ensuring that 6th grade students are literate and prepared for the demands of IB coursework as they move through the secondary program. In this role, the AD designs and facilitates network-wide professional development, content-focused learning walks, and coaches and develops instructional leaders on campus across our schools.They are also responsible for designing standards-aligned assessments and test preparation resources. This position reports directly to the Network Director of Literacy K-12 on the Teaching and Learning Team. Critically, the AD will bring an understanding that advancing an already high-achieving network means ensuring that excellence is not unevenly distributed, and that closing internal gaps is as important as sustaining overall performance.
Planning and Instruction
- Work with the Teaching and Learning Team and school-based stakeholders to develop and share a vision for instructional excellence in secondary literacy to actively advocate for the implementation of the vision.
- Establish goals and prioritize initiatives, in collaboration with the members of the Teaching and Learning Team and principals, that push forward student achievement in literacy across grades 6-12.
- Lead a network-wide review of curriculum, standards and student performance data on a regular basis to ensure alignment and rigor and make necessary revisions.
- Develop and update interim assessments, mock assessments, and gateway assessments in collaboration with other stakeholders.
- Maintain up to date scope and sequences, instructional guidance, and tools for rigorous and engaging literacy instruction across 6-12 grade bands.
- Ensure IB MYP and DP Language and Literature alignment for ELA content in grades 6-10, including unit design, text selection, and assessment criteria.
- Manage ROAR and HD Word progress monitoring cycles, intervention placement, and benchmark response across middle school campuses.
- Design and oversee middle school Reading Enrichment and Reading Intervention systems and ensure their sustainability across all four middle school campuses.
Coach school-based leaders to improve their literacy programs
- Articulate a vision for strong secondary literacy instruction and implementation of HQIM
- Diagnose the strengths and areas for growth of programs across the network and work with academic leaders and principals to create action plans for improvement and aligned support
- Give feedback on professional development and/or classroom instruction
- Develop, review, and/or revise assessments and curricular materials
- Analyze the results of network assessments and help academic leaders and teachers use the data to establish goals and adjust instruction, as appropriate
Facilitating professional development and modeling great teaching
- Design and facilitate professional development grounded in the Science of Reading and aligned to secondary literacy priorities
- Develop instructional leaders and teachers through coaching and differentiated support
- Research and distill lessons learned and recommendations to school-based content teams
- Curate the organization of online content resources to ensure school-based teams have access to the highest quality, most relevant materials to support their work
- Facilitate the sharing of knowledge gained through meetings and observations across the network of schools
- Engage in learning opportunities designed to promote stronger Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion practices at Prospect Schools
Candidate Requirements:
- Master's degree or higher in a related field, Education preferred
- Deep understanding of secondary literacy development, including adolescent reading science and structured literacy approaches for older learners
- Familiarity with IB Middle Years Programme and Diploma Programme ELA frameworks strongly preferred
- Builds trust with school-based leaders and adjusts coaching approach based on individual school context and leader readiness
- Uses data to identify and close gaps for all student groups, with a clear commitment to equitable outcomes across the network
- Classroom teaching or other relevant instructional experience at the secondary level
- At least 3 years teaching and/or leadership experience in an urban school
- Current and valid New York State Teaching License preferred
- Proven track record of academic success
- Ability to coordinate and collaborate with diverse groups of professionals across multiple departments and organizations to achieve unified, consistent practices
- Experience coordinating and delivering professional development for a variety of internal and external stakeholders
- Skilled multi-tasker and excellent time manager; ability to effectively achieve multiple goals and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Strategic and critical thinker
- Strong project-planning experience
- Exceptional written, oral, and visual communications skills
Salary:
The salary range for this role starts at $90,000, then increases based on years of experience. Our salaries are set through a lens of equity, and based on an individual's skills, education, and years of experience relevant to the role.
