DescriptionResponsible for the maintenance and management of the enterprise network resources at all campus locations; including monitoring of active data networks and converged infrastructure, analyzing network performance and usage; troubleshooting network problems; and establishing and maintaining routine preventive maintenance schedule. Also responsible for Server and VMware Administration.
Includes identity and access management (IAM), cloud coordination, and support for cybersecurity monitoring and response activities.
Serves as a senior technical resource and primary liaison for vendor escalations and complex technical issues.
The Network Administrator V and Systems Engineer receives supervision from the Executive Director of Information Technology and supervises the Network Administrator.
Examples of Duties Enterprise Network Administration- Manage enterprise network resources on all campuses; analyze network performance and usage, and troubleshoot network problems.
- Responsible for the overall performance and availability of the network.
- Establish and maintain routine preventive maintenance schedule; maintain network diagrams.
- Maintain the security of the campus-wide network, including firewall systems, authentication servers, and Internet addressing.
- Analyze network and recommend upgrades, patches, and new applications and equipment; assess current and future network needs.
- Plan, design, and implement network infrastructure for new construction and renovation projects, including network layout, cabling requirements, equipment placement, and connectivity standards.
- Set up, configure, and support internal and/or external networks.
- Administer and support campus wireless network (Wi-Fi) systems, including installation, configuration, monitoring, and performance optimization.
- Develop and maintain all systems, applications, security, and network configurations.
- Provide technical assistance and training to personnel representing functional areas of the college as needed.
- Manage server infrastructure including email systems, authentication servers, and other systems.
- Provide complex technical support to clients via email, phone, or other methods.
- Possess deep understanding of systems and provide guidance to less experienced personnel.
- Handle confidential information and materials.
- Act as primary technical point of contact for vendor escalations (e.g., Cisco TAC).
Systems Architecture & Identity Management- Implement and maintain Single Sign-On (SSO) and identity management systems in support of institutional access and security requirements.
- Administer VMware vSphere environment, including ESXi hosts and vCenter.
- Administer and maintain Windows Server environments, including installation, configuration, and upgrades.
- Administer and maintain Active Directory services, including user and group management, Group Policy configuration, authentication services, and directory structure to support secure and efficient access to institutional systems.
- Manage DNS infrastructure including domain record creation and maintenance.
- Support technical administration of Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace environments (in coordination with applications governance).
- Support the implementation and technical operation of cloud infrastructure services in coordination with IT leadership and vendor partners.
- Administer and manage digital certificates (e.g., SSL/TLS via DigiCert), including issuance, renewal, installation, and lifecycle tracking to support secure network and application communications.
Cybersecurity & Threat Mitigation- Support the monitoring and operation of cybersecurity tools and platforms as part of infrastructure and system security.
- Assist in identifying and responding to security threats, including phishing attempts, in coordination with IT leadership and established procedures.
- Support integration and technical operation of physical security technologies in coordination with IT leadership and relevant departments.
- Support technical administration and integration of security camera and access control systems in coordination with IT leadership and campus operations.
- Assist with vulnerability scanning and assessment activities with the third-party security providers.
- Monitor, analyze, and maintain logs in Security Onion to identify and investigate potential security threats
Systems Engineering & Storage Management- Plan and engineer systems infrastructure including hardware and software design.
- Monitor the performance of systems.
- Design, plan, and implement storage systems and procedures.
- Troubleshoot and support storage systems including SAN environments.
- Develop and recommend storage and virtual solutions.
- Provide backup and recovery strategies.
- Support systems that rely on client-server architecture, including familiarity with relational database environments and performance considerations.
Administrative & Vendor Coordination- Provide technical recommendations and consultation to IT leadership.
- Collaborate with vendors and IT leadership to support technical issue resolution and infrastructure-related service needs.
- Document problems, solutions, programs, and procedures for computer network systems.
Other Important Functions- Organize and maintain a suitable work area where support activities will be performed, including service, recordkeeping and other office functions.
- Coordinate closely with other college positions with responsibility for network support, which includes: IT personnel, Library staff and other academic and administrative departments on all campuses of the College.
- Maintain knowledge of current networking technology and practices through relationships with similar positions within the community college system and with others in the computer industry.
- Collect and review information on computer network hardware and software and peripheral equipment.
- Document problems, solutions, programs and procedures for computer network systems.
- Respond to and answer questions of staff on computer network systems, software programs and related equipment.
- Serve on college committees, attend staff development and training programs and support college functions.

Typical Qualifications Required- A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university in information technology, computer science, or a related field.
- Four years of experience in enterprise network management.
- Experience with local area network training and experience.
- Experience with Microsoft Server 2008/2012/2016, Cisco ASA Firewall and Cisco Switches;, Cisco networking, firewall administration, VMware Administration, and Active Directory.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver's license.

Unique:VMware System Administration:- Installs, configures, troubleshoots, patches and manages VMware, vSphere, vSwitches, ESXi, and 2008 & 2012 environments and operating systems.
- Configures VMware Distributed Resource Scheduling, High Availability and Fault Tolerance.
- Understands multi-tiered Storage Concepts / Protocols and Architecture
- Diagnoses and troubleshoots problems with Servers, PCs, software, and communications devices.
- Interfaces with vendors to ensure appropriate resolution during ESXi, Windows, or VMWare related outages or periods of reduced performance.

Storage Management Administrator:- Designs, plans, and implements storage systems and procedures.

- Monitor performance metrics within the Storage Area Network (SAN) such as bandwidth utilization, processors, port utilization.
- Allocate and de-allocate LUNs, NFS, and CIFS as needed in a multiprotocol environment
- Develop and recommend storage and virtual solutions, improvements, standards, and internal processes to efficiently and cost-effectively meet the technology needs of our storage users.

Network Security Systems Management:- Manages all network security systems for LAN/WAN, telecommunications, and voice systems.
