Position Summary

The second level of the Gas Trader classification hierarchy. Employees at this level solve more complex problems, in Natural Gas areas of specialization, with general supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and the ability to work with greater independence. They effectively apply fundamental concepts and procedures to work that is fairly complex and varied.

The third level of the Gas Trader classification hierarchy. Employees at this level manage work in Natural gas areas of specialization, with minimal supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and to have the ability to work independently, with guidance limited to unusual or complex projects or issues. They are fully competent in use of concepts and procedures . They identify problems, develop solutions and take actions to resolve.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and execute on daily and short-term gas trading activities to meet the gas needs of the generation fleet and generate customer savings.
  • Assist with the execution of approved financial hedging strategies.
  • Backup, nighttime and weekend coverage responsibilities.
  • Assist in preparation of regulatory responses and provide support for various audit activities.
  • Assist in the development of gas, credit and risk processes and procedures.
  • Manage and optimize the daily, monthly, seasonal and annual supply and transportation needs by interacting with suppliers and pipelines to procure physical natural gas and transportation.
  • Lead and execute hedging program using various financial instruments. Identify potential new supply and transportation opportunities that economically support the fleet. Identification of fuel savings opportunities.
  • Support Short and Long term gas supply and transportation procurement
  • Direct subject matter expert supporting responses to discovery in regulatory fuel recovery clause proceedings. Direct support of various audit activities.
  • Develop and implement daily and monthly physical set up strategy of gas requirements for each entity


Required/Basic Qualifications for Gas Trader
  • Bachelor's degree
  • In addition to required degree, five (5) years related work experience

Required/Basic Qualifications for Senior Gas Trader
  • Bachelor's degree
  • In addition to required degree, eight (8) years related work experience


Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience Hedging with Swaps and other financial products
  • Experience with Physical Gas Procurement
  • Strong business analytical skills
  • Proficiently operate computer software and hardware for data manipulation, analysis and presentation purposes.
  • Experience trading and moving natural Gas on various interstate gas pipeline systems. Interpersonal skills and apply systematic thinking to help identify, clarify and solve business problems.


Working Conditions
  • Hybrid - Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to the designated Duke Energy facility.
  • Open-fast paced environment with hard deadlines.
  • Must be available Weekends and nights
