Position Summary

CBN Nano Technologies is developing a cutting-edge scanning probe microscope along with its associated interfaces. This position will be responsible for designing, building, and testing software applications that enable efficient data acquisition, processing, and visualization for experimental workflows. The role involves creating robust, maintainable software tools that integrate seamlessly with laboratory instruments and research processes, ensuring high performance and reliability in a research and development environment.

Responsibilities
  • Develop software for real-time data acquisition and control of scientific instruments
  • Design and develop interactive visualization tools that help researchers interact with data, interpret results, and support experimental workflows
  • Develop and maintain RESTful APIs that orchestrate laboratory instrument control, workflow automation, and data processing pipelines
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization such as experts in data, research processes, infrastructure and operations to build new tools for scientific instrument control
  • Work with a wide range of systems and technologies to own and solve problems from end-to-end
  • Stay abreast of developments in applications development and programming languages.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • 4+ years of professional experience as a full stack developer
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Physics, or Engineering or equivalent practical experience
  • Strong proficiency in Python
  • Knowledge of relational database technologies such as PostgreSQL
  • Working knowledge of containerization technologies such as Docker
  • Experience designing and working with RESTful APIs
  • Proficiency with fundamental client-side languages such as TypeScript
  • Proficiency with JavaScript frameworks such as React
  • Proficiency working in Linux and Windows environments
  • Experience with asynchronous/task processing and WebSockets
  • Working knowledge of modern software development practices, automated testing (unit/integration), CI/CD, version control (Git), code reviews

Preferred Qualifications
  • 8+ years of professional experience as a full stack developer
  • Understanding of cloud-native architectures and services (e.g., Azure), including caching/queueing technologies such as Redis
  • Familiarity with scientific/industrial instrumentation automation, scanning probe microscopes and/or experimental workflows
  • Experience in scientific process automation or workflow automation in research or engineering environments
  • Experience integrating software with laboratory instruments, embedded systems, or other hardware-controlled environments
