Spanning 40+ projects, covering 24 countries in the Pacific, Middle East, Europe, Africa, and South America, MITRE's N156 Coalitional Capabilities department represents the majority of MITRE's Foreign Military Sales (FMS). N156 provides exquisite systems engineering and technical excellence to advance Allied, Partner security, stability, and US interests. We work with our US and international Partners to advance mutual policy objectives, better position collaborative capabilities, and enhance concept and mission employment in line with Dept Air Force and Combatant Command priorities, US Country Plans, and MITRE's strategic initiatives.
Roles & Responsibilities:The Chief Engineer is accountable to ensure the Department's deliverables are of the highest quality, given the importance of the mission. The Chief Engineer of the Air & Space Force Coalition Capabilities Department works with stakeholders within the Department's sponsor-base, partnering countries, as well as across MITRE to align and shape activities that have shared equities with all government sponsors. The Chief Engineer is accountable for coordinating with other A&SFC, Mission Driven Integration, and Ops in Contested Environments Department/Division Chief Engineers to ensure the requisite level of quality standards are met on interconnected efforts while ensuring the relevance and impact of our products. The Chief Engineer's responsibilities include:
Technical Quality- Ensure the strength of the Department's work by shaping its content and bringing a perspective that reflects knowledge of the Department's domain and technical capability areas
- Provide technical direction and oversight to the project and other Department efforts
- Implement the technical quality program across the analytical domain to ensure products and recommendations delivered to MITRE's sponsors are independent, data-driven, technically sound, and properly reviewed
- Provide assessment of the FFRDC appropriateness of project activities within our work program and provide recommendations to ensure impactful use of FFRDC staff and resources
- Collaborate with Chief Engineers across MNS, MPS, and MTE to identify opportunities to define and improve technical quality norms across the Corporation
- Collaborate with Chief Engineers across MITRE including MPS, MNS, and MTE to identify opportunities to align efforts and increase impact to sponsors
Technical Impact- Lead key technical areas across the Department and manage the Department's connections across MNS and MITRE in concert with the Department Manager
- Represent the Department's requirements to the MITRE internal research and development community to assist with defining investments to address sponsors' pressing operational challenges
- Drive technical contributions to impact mission
- Provide technical expertise and guidance at the project, task, and individual levels
Strategy Development- Partner in developing, refining, and driving the Department's contributions to the Center and Division strategies and help ensure our contributions satisfy its goals, objectives, and initiatives
- Identify new areas where MITRE is either uniquely positioned, or has an opportunity to provide, innovative capabilities to existing and emerging sponsors
- Identify capability areas of focus for the Department that are aligned to current and future sponsor needs
- Provide continuous assessment of the Department's capabilities to inform hiring activities and investment opportunities
Staff Development- Demonstrate and promote MITRE's cultural attributes (speed, risk-taking, adaptability, collaboration, grace and respect)
- Mentor and develop staff and promote career path development and succession planning
- Promote a culture of collaboration across all staff experience levels to improve MITRE's value to sponsor
Partnerships and Initiatives - Coordinate technical outreach to industry, academia, and other stakeholders, ensuring that best practices and technologies are brought to bear on products/deliverables
- Collaborate with Chief Engineers across MITRE including MPS, MNS, and MTE to identify opportunities to align efforts and increase impact to sponsors
Basic Qualifications:- Typically requires a minimum of 12 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 10 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 7 years' experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience
- Experience developing strategies to increase the impact of deliverables
- Strong writing and editing skills including demonstrated ability to articulate complex topics to sponsors and staff
- Active TS/SCI clearance
- U.S. Citizenship required
- This position requires a minimum of 4 days a week on-site.
Preferred Qualifications: - Detailed understanding of the International Security Environment and how it relates to MITRE's capabilities

Salary compensation range and midpoint:$190,000 - $237,500 - $285,000 Annual
