Overview

Square Care Medical Group is currently seeking an experienced Molecular Laboratory Manager to oversee the daily operations of our NEW Laboratory in Suffern, NY,

This position supervises, trains, and assures competency of personnel. Performs new test verifications, validations, and molecular and genetic testing. Accessions samples when needed. Assists in the troubleshooting of problems with tests, instruments, and sample delivery. Reviews tests, performance and maintains quality control records. Maintains record of instruments, failures, calibrations, and repairs. Prepares summaries of quality assurance records and the quality management program. Works with Client Service department to assure appropriate sample delivery, appropriate test requisitions. Performs laboratory tasks and other functions independently. Oversees financial aspects of the laboratory. Oversees and works towards improving overall laboratory workflow as it relates to quality, efficiency, and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise molecular technicians and laboratory assistants in the accessioning, performance, and processing of specimens.
  • Plan, assign, and direct workflow in the laboratory. Provides back-up to other positions in the laboratory.
  • Acquire and maintain all necessary state and federal licenses including CAP accreditation.
  • Define, coordinate, and monitor quality assurance program. Ensure quality control and compliance procedures are followed and quality control reports are up to date. Prepare for the CAP and other inspections.
  • Mentor and support direct reports in their responsibilities and functions. Identifies and implements training programs, as necessary.
  • Oversee staffing of all personnel in the laboratory. Effectively maintains quality staffing by interviewing, hiring, training, and providing staff development through performance evaluation and performance management.
  • Maintains medical laboratory equipment performance by establishing quality standards; developing operations, quality, and troubleshooting procedures; ensuring staff compliance; certifying instrument performance; arranging equipment replacement, service, and repair.
  • Develop annual budget and manages department costs and resources to adhere to budget.
  • Oversee the financial aspects of the laboratory, ensuring all bills are paid on time.
  • Maintain laboratory supply inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies.
  • Maintain medical laboratory productivity by monitoring workload of functional areas; identifying peak and slack periods; making operational or staffing adjustment.
  • Resolves problems through interaction with clients either through phone calls or other means of communication.
  • Participate in other projects and perform other duties as needed.
  • Responsible for overall performance of the accessioning, molecular, and genetic departments.
