Instrumental role within a growing Injection Molding Toolroom located in Fremont, CA. Reporting to the Tooling Manager, this role will work to coordinate, estimate, source, design, and troubleshoot tool builds, repairs, and spares, as a key member of the Tooling team. This individual must come with hands on experience as a Toolmaker, being well versed in all stages of tool builds, fully cognizant of the time and materials required. Fremont Tooling specializes in High-End and Micro Tooling for the medical device industry. This is not an entry level position. The right candidate will be able to conceptualize approaches, design and cost accordingly, providing our customers with high-end, cost effective, solutions that pair well with their respective needs.
Key Responsibilities: Mold Design - Design tools from Class 101 to Class 105, including Modular Tooling (Multi-Cavity and Hot Runner Tools)
- Prelim Designs for Estimating
- Predictive Flow Simulation (MoldFlow, SW Plastics)
- Design for Manufacturing / Design for Automation
- Design for High-Speed and Hard Milling
- Creative Troubleshooting and Fixture Design (WEDM, Vision Systems, etc.)
- Sinker Electrode Design
Estimating - Originates Estimates Working Closely with the Tooling Manager, Customers, and the Viant Commercial Team
- Familiar with Tool Component and Materials Sourcing
- Strong Computer Skills, Well Versed in Time and Materials Estimating

Job Requirements: - High School education or equivalent.
- Journeyman Toolmaker or Demonstrated Equivalency
- 8+ Years of Hands on Mold Making Experience
- 7-10 Years of Tool Design Experience (60+ Tools Designed)
- Minimum 3 years of Prior Job Shop Estimating
- Extremely Creative / Technical Engineering Mind
- Strong Mechanical Aptitude and Troubleshooting Skills
- Demonstrated Skill with Part and Assembly Design
- Well Versed in Tool Design Theory, Including Tool Metallurgy
- Sinker EDM Electrode Design
- Expert in Tolerancing: Component and Assembly Stack
- Over-molding, Texturing, and Polishing
- Ability to Design for Vertical, Rotary, and Horizontal Presses (20-200 ton)
- Experience and Efficiency in CAM programming for CNC Mill / Lathe a plus
- Inspection with Calipers, Micrometers, Test Indicators, Other
- Reverse Engineering
- Experience with Vision Systems a plus (MicroVu, OGP, etc.)
- Strong Computer Skills (Excel, Powerpoint, Word, Outlook, etc.)
- Ability to Manage Multiple Projects
- Ability to Originate, Read, and Interpret Prints
- Ability to Lift Up to 50 lbs.
- Speak, Read, and Write English to Be Easily Understood

We offer market competitive compensation. Potential salary range for this role is $130k-$150k. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law
